That'd be really cool.

Would you allow players in either game to talk about the other one then?
This seems like it would be par for the experiment...

Speaking of which, given the odd "setup(s)" and the bending of a site rule, I'm guessing this would be run outside of an official queue, much like Majiffy's Audio Mafia game a few weeks ago. This sounds really interesting, and I had actually been thinking of something similar to this where the games were more intertwined - for example one game could be Reverse Mafia (with the "reviving Town" mechanic) and the other game could be regular Mafia, with more people entering the second game as the players in the first game "revived" more people. Given the Reverse Mafia "reviving" mechanic, Roles would be independent, and the other main problem with the idea is it'd be all the same players and would be wacky to setup for wincons, etc.

But I digress, I really like the idea Reck. If it bears fruit lemme know.

Anyone want to review my 100 player Star Wars mafia setup? Some players may not want to play it, but I think we could get 100 players in a 30 day sign up period.

Doesn't the queue have a limit of like two weeks?

That just means a 100-player game is a bad idea.

I'm not saying we couldn't, I'm just wondering at the possibility of an extention.

I remember the list mod setting a deadline for mykonian's 50-player game, and people rushing to fill it before the deadline.
A 100-player game would be unlikely to fill by a reasonable deadline, I think, based on what happened in that game.

As for the two-identical-setups idea, it's pretty interesting. You could go further and give the two games identical playerlists (and allow the two games to talk about each other). That'd have interesting effects like making scum in one game neighbours in the other (until they started dying), etc..

Big is not good. people should stop trying to do this. a game should be as big as the concept needs or smaller, but it should never be the starting point "oh i want to run a 50 person game" is a terrible way to design a game.

Exactly.

War in Heaven III was a 36-player game, but that's where a balance point lay, not because it was just designed to be a record smasher (it wasn't, by the way).

It's a balanced, fun game. Not just designed for record smashing. But if there is no interest than whatevah.

Having 100 players is going to change the dynamic of a game somewhat. For instance, you're never going to get 51 votes on someone day 1 and yet have reasonable scumhunting going on at the same time, unless you have deadlines of around a year (by which time everyone would have got bored). So it's something you definitely have to account for in setup design.

You'd need to split them up into cells or something. I wouldn't really want to have to mod four 25 player games at once though

Recruiting multiple mods could work too.

FWIW, if people ever need an extra mod for something like this and they're not too busy…

(I'm actually wondering about chipping in for reviewing the setup, not because I think it will work, but because I want some idea of how much of a trainwreck it'll turn out to be. Who knows, it might be salvageable.)

The Long Game

All details subject to change

18p Large Theme

Each Round lasts at least 48 hours. During each round, a player may post exactly ONCE in the thread. They may at any time during that 48 hours PM the moderator to place their vote. At the end of the round, the vote total against each player will be announced (but not who voted for whom). There is no public voting (players may say who they're voting for, but are under no obligation to actually submit that to the moderator). If a player does not place their vote, their vote is not counted (i.e. it is not simply carried over from the previous round).

In addition to the vote count, each Round an Event Card will be drawn from a deck of 24 cards. These Events will affect various aspects of the game.

There are no deadlines. Players are lynched when they receive a majority of the total votes
placed
.

There will be a night and day section. There are night powers.

Somewhat complicated game that is by its nature pretty swingy as it is Event driven. I reserve the right to be very slightly bastard in order to make the event system work (though I promise there will be no alignment changes).

Not taking pre-ins at the moment as I want to make sure it's workable and get at least started with the review process, but I only want to do this if there's interest.

I'd be interested in playing. Beginning of the game should be fun to see although depending upon player list I can see most people posting in the first part of the day and leaving a wait 24 hour zone.

It does a lot more then that since it makes scum hunting different if back and forths aren't going to occur. Trying to really discuss anything back and forth for a set up with private voting is also harder than usual.

Why 48 and not 24 though? Seems momentum-killing...

Also, by the rule you posted the first person to vote has a majority of votes placed, and achieves their lynch target immediately? I assume that's an oversight.

well part of it may be due to the fact that Strategy Mafia, with 24 hour turn arounds felt far too much obligation and really ground people down.

I'm not sure I understand your second point? Yes, when someone reaches majority, they are immediately lynched.
