So, word is out that Forum 62 is closing today. This is true. The admins and moderators have wrestled with a long list of possible options, and we are in agreement that Forum 62 as it currently exists needs to go. It was a worthwhile experiment in an unmoderated forum, and a lot of good things have come of it; but also a lot of bad.
To fill the void of adult conversation, we are opening a new forum, called "The Speakeasy". I want to be very clear on this point:
This is not F62 2.0.
It will be moderated, in accordance with site rules; in particular personal attacks and harrassment will not be tolerated. However, adult conversation is welcome (again, subject to site rules re: NSFW warnings etc.). A more complete list of SE specific rules will be available in the form of a sticky once the forum is open. This list is not intended to be exhaustive, and may see changes as issues arise, but it should give you a starting point on figuring out what is appropriate to post in SE vs. GD vs. not at all.Access to SE will be opt-in, and for now will also require mod-approval due to a post count requirement. Eventaully, we hope to have this automated.
Because there are some F62 threads which largely meet the "mature discussion" intent of SE, we are seeding SE with some of these threads to preserve the flow of active conversation. The two longest threads (and some long threads in other forums) will eventually be split for site performance reasons (primarily long ISO loading times), but the locked older portion will be be moved to SE as well for easy viewing. Other threads may be eligible for a move to SE as well, if they are:
1. Active (both in terms of most recent on-topic post and post count).
2. The intent of the thread meets the rules of The Speakeasy.
We will have a process for nominating these threads, in the very near future.
Threads remaining in Forum 62 will still be viewable, just as completed Mafia threads are viewable in a archive subforum. Particularly destructive threads may eventually be 'boxed, but probably not any time soon.
If you have any questions or comments, please use the Speakeasy Discussion thread in Site Ideas.
