yeah but that's boring. is there any way i can actually see how much progress is being made in getting enough players for the next game? or am i just at the mercy of the "f5 and stare at inbox" approach?
there are 6 Newbies 2 SEs, and one IC in a Newbie game, and our lovely listmod is very good at clumping them together in groups of 6 on the first page under Newbies. That should help you. Also if you /in and not in the queue yet, check her last post to see iwhere she is on the thread she always posts up to date as of.....
While you are waiting feel free to check out how other games are going to help get a feel for how we play here. Also look at the Wiki, it is out of date as far as tells go, but a lot of the other info is timeless and very helpful.
i've played maybe... idk maybe 15 or so games on another site so i wouldn't really classify myself as a "newbie." that being said, i've read through a few games on this site and things (game setup, how people play, etc) are very different than what I'm used to so i should probably play in a newbie to get myself accustomed to how things are done around here. is that dumb; should i skip the newbie phase?
It's not required to go into your newbie game first. You can skip it actually. It just has the advantage of knowing how this site works. There may be some significant differences here compared to your "site-of-origin"
It's not unusual for a site newbie but experienced player to be here.

If you think you should play in a newbie game, do so; it will help you in the long run. You already know that you can skip it, but newbie games are of good use in learning how the site works (even beyond in-game matters)--site features, abbreviations, and general meta that no one will bother to explain to you outside the newbie queue.
yeah... i am used to 48 hour day cycles where d1's have more posts than an entire game gets on this site. and it wasn't spam, the average post tended to be much larger than posts here. in other words... the games were MUCH more active, and MUCH faster. on the other site a d1 could often have around 2,000 posts... and that's in a 48 hr d1. i expect my first game here to be quite a departure from what i'm used to
nope. it's not a mafia-based site, just a site that happens to have a small but dedicated mafia sub-forum. the player base on that site was much better at mafia (no offense :3) than my impressions of the average player on this site, but a good amount of the people there were egotistical jerks who weren't very fun to play with. i've read through a few games here and things seem a lot more casual, which I like.
If someone acts like an "egotistical jerk", or so you say, they are just aggressive. I can name a few people but I don't like disclosing names unless I have person's consent.
Anyways... You can freely roam the site for games. You can sign-in in another queue.
(Stopping now because singer might get mad for spamming queue ._. )

clarify: where ARE you from?
also, TNE, IMO this conversation is moderately appropro to the Newbie Queue, I don't think it's TOO big of a deal...?
I've played mafia on another site (non mafia site), I'm not really that good though, so I thought I'd practice some more here since we don't do many mafia games there.
CareyHammer requested replacement in Newbie 1351. It's a SE slot, so only players who have completed two or more games can take it. It's day one; twenty-six pages.
you cant. you're still in your first game. once youve completed your first game, then you may /in for others.
I'm pretty sure you can, I mean you can't in for another Newbie but outside that I don't know.
I'm pretty sure you have to have been killed/replaced/finished your first game to sign up for another,
