I can't bring myself to believe it's anything other than mistakenly believing he can save himself from the slippery slope of "having not been too noticeable" and suddenly being brought into the light. I'm not sure that Rubi & AN are the same team. But with the evidence from Majiffy, and Rubicon's strange line of questioning today re:AN, I'd say that's a definite possibility.
