True, but it's not like there's no significant difference between lynching scum vs the doctor today. It completely decides whether Messiah lives tonight and (possibly, depending on how many scum are left) whether DGB / Guille die later.

What occurred is far simpler. I protected Messiah. Messiah watched me. This keeps Messiah safe, and keeps me from getting killed without the killer outing him or herself. This will hopefully be particularly useful when there's only one scum left.

Years back, when I was a hall director in college, there was this really drunk guy roaming around one of the quads (the area between four apartments) in his underwear, with a Lazer Tag rifle slung over his shoulder. I approached, wondering what the hell was going on. He pointed the Lazer Tag rifle at me, and demanded that I prove I was human.

Now...I could have just called campus security. Curiosity got the better of me, because I wanted to know what the hell was going on in his head. He and I started discussing what had occurred, and led him to that state. Turns out he had watched "The Thing" while drinking heavily. He then decided it was a good idea to guard the quad to make sure no aliens got in.
