This hadn't happened to them in, oh, two-hundred years at least. There was no need to exchange words. They saw the nightmare crawling toward Mainstream Avenue and knew what they had to do. A simple nod from each of them as they returned to their boxes and vanished with that eerie sound.
Back on the street, the two stretch limos came to a slow stop at the sight of a walking sponge and its walking starfish companion.The two oddities walked right up to the back window of one of the black vehicles and knocked on it. The sponge let out a cackle of a laugh as the window came buzzing down and cigar smoke bellowed from whence it came. The old man wasn't even looking at the two things standing in front of him as another man, quite an angry little fellow, placed the edge of the barrel of the shotgun on the windowsil. The sponge-monster raised a finger but wouldn't ever utter words again.
