I hate that too. Everyone starts crying when I pick Soraka even though her win rate is completely fine. Usually "I have an absurd win rate on Soraka, Lolking me" shuts them up. And if it doesn't I pick her anyway.

the difference is with sor/janna, the ad is the playmaker in the lane, you back it up. Leona/taric etc all take that job and let the ad follow up. Naturally it's easier not to have to make the plays.

Not really, but when you aren't on skype, etc with your lane partner (because you are solo Qing) you can't count on them to work with your engages. Playing the reactive role makes coordinating easier, especially at lower play levels.

of course you do. CDR boots-Rylais-Gauntlet. With runes/masteries you get to 40% cdr, permaslowing everybody around you so that your team can just win the fight. Sona only stuns for little over a second. You slow aoe for eternity.

I play janna and Athene's is op as balls. I haven't played soraka in a while, but I have to imagine its equally viable on her.

I wouldn't build Rylai's on support Soraka, but it's practically mandatory on AP-raka.

Chalice is <3 on supports, but unless I plan on getting a crucible (or get fed early somehow), I only get it on Nami (that chick has some crazy mana issues, man).

CDR is great on supports, but I wouldn't get Athene's for a cdr item unless I was low on slots. There are plenty of great cdr items out there and small amount of AP on grail is pretty meh as a secondary stat to have on a support outside of laning phase. That's also why I'm not a fan of morellonomicon on supports unless I actually want the grievous wounds passive.

If I get Shurelya's+Locket+Boots+Sightstone, and someone else did Aegis, I usually go for Mikael's, but that just about never happens.

I feel like crucible is a better item than people give it credit for. There are games where I never manage to use it to cleanse cc and it still feels worth it. Heals OP and such. I usually get it as a first or second major item if we have a strong AD carry vs a heavy cc team. I definitely do not mind getting an early chalice on supports.

Sometimes if I'm playing a mage-type support, am really ahead, and my jungler got both aegis and locket, I'll go for a haunting guise just because I don't know what the hell else to build. I can't really vouch for its effectiveness since I only get it if I'm winning regardless, but hey, it's out there.

And also, please don't build Rylai's on any support. The reason why you shouldn't is pretty obvious and I'm only saying this because I've actually seen people do it on both Soraka and Janna.

I used to play sorc shoes + haunting guise + abyssal support Nunu/Fiddle when I was just messing around. (Then I'd stand in bushes and wait to ult, of course) It's hilariously fun, but probably terrible.

Soraka Rylai's makes infinitely more sense than Janna.
And I dunno, it's not too crazy to get it in certain situations on your support if they can make a great use of it. Though I wouldn't suggest it in most scenarios.
Generally you would never have enough money for such a luxury on a support.
