@GIF: can you explain what "whiteknighting" is?

I'm bit confused on what you're doing.

My read is null on Al, and although I am willing to compromise for the sake of avoiding no lynch d1, I will still urge the town for the mara lynch.

In post 473, TheIrishPope wrote:I am an example of Town who operates better at the start of D2 :D
Translation: "My incompetence has made me into the likely D1 lynch, so I will pretend my play suddenly improves after D1 in order to save myself."

Wayne: I'd rather lynch Pope than GIF at the moment. Both of them are viable targets for the lynch, but Pope is the one who I think is scum. Besides, it's better to lynch town that derails discussion than not lynch anyone D1.

Right now, I have Pope and Starstorm as the scumteam. I didn't want to post a case on Starstorm until he came back, but since he was supposed to come back last night I think now is a good time to post a case on him.

In post 24, Starstorm wrote:Ok, I'm super lost. This is my first game. What is going on, and what do I need to do?
I personally find outright declarations of "HUH WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO" sort of forced. But hey, he's new here! It's not like he's necessarily played mafia before!
In post 35, Starstorm wrote:Ok, so I've played mafia at parties before, and I think I understand most of what's going on.
Oh.
One thing that occurred to me, though. Perhaps Wayne and Irish are both mafia? I know, whenever I play at a party, when Bob (to use a name) leads a lynch on Steve (to use another name) the town becomes pretty trusting of Bob when Steve flips mafia. What if Irish is trying to gain our trust when he is in all actuality the second mafia?

Everyone else, I'd like to hear your thoughts on this.
Starstorm sometimes makes posts where he throws out ideas like this one with minimal relation to what he's previously been pushing, then asks the town what they think about what he just said. This strikes me as scum trying to direct the conversation towards tangential discussions.
In post 46, Starstorm wrote:Wayne, it seems difficult to establish a read on TheIrishPope after he posted one line. I'd say the vote seems a little hasty. But I like your point about how party mafia is way different from forum mafia.
The last line here strikes me as an attempt to remain on Wayne's good side even after disagreeing with his main scumread. Why else would you bring up a point completely unrelated to the game at hand to someone's favor?
In post 73, Starstorm wrote:I'm starting to buy the idea that Irish and wayne are two obstinate townies yelling at each other that they're right. I don't know if I agree with MP5 being mafia yet, but I have to go. I'll read/contribute more when I get back this afternoon. A thought: Couldn't the mafia be two people who are lurking, trying not to say anything incriminating and instead fly under the radar? I know if I was mafia, I wouldn't want to draw attention to myself.
Another one of those "Hey, I just had this crazy idea" type statements.
In post 87, Starstorm wrote:Wayne, I'm guessing by reading post #80 that you still think Irish is scum. Why do you suspect him, when he wasn't the only person to random vote? Was it because he RVed you, or has he been truly scummy?

Votes in the first 30 posts:
#6: Voodoo votes me - random (Has unvoted)
#9: TheIrishPope votes Waynegg - random (Has unvoted)
#10: Wayne votes TIP - retaliation (Has not unvoted)
#11: Mizsu votes MP5 - random (Has unvoted)
#30: MP5 votes me - random (Has unvoted)

When we look further:
#40 MP5 votes Frequency - randomish (Has not unvoted)
#59 Super votes Mizsu - randomish (Has unvoted)
#64 Voodoo votes MP5 - based upon reads (Has not unvoted)
#70 Start votes Super - random (Has not unvoted)

Only one other vote is based upon reads (Voodoo) and her valid questions have not been answered.

My thoughts on this:
1) I think Irish is more likely to be sided with the village than wayne. Irish unvoted wayne, he got the read on Wayne he was looking for. That seems town to me.
2) Wayne, on the other hand, has stuck to voting Irish. I'm not sure if Wayne just took the RV personally, but it seems that since he got what he was looking for (TIP's unvote) that the 1v1 is over?
3) MP5 RVed, even though the ball had already started rolling. When I made my post, he unvoted me and voted Frequency. I'm thinking MP5 just wants somebody (other than himself, obviously) lynched. For now, my vote goes to VOTE: MP5 since his voting pattern seems odd and unjustifiable, but I'm by no means sealing my vote.
First off-- the part analyzing the vote movement is pure IIOA. His vote for MP5 seems sort of opportunistic (although not as obviously so as Pope's vote for him).

What's also interesting is that he still asks Wayne why he's voting based solely on an RVS vote, even though he's obviously moved past that. This seems like an attempt to delegitimize Wayne's vote.

So: I'm not saying there's concrete evidence for Starstorm being scum, and I dislike making a case on someone while they're V/LA. But I'm currently more suspicious of Starstorm than anyone here bar Pope.

Think of it as a white knight from the fairy tales defending his helpless princess.
Whiteknighting is when a person openly defend the other person.
It's different from chainsaw defense, which is indirectly defending a person while attacking a person who attacked the person.

VL, many a truth is told in jest...
In post 215, GuyInFreezer wrote:But we're both scum so don't get your hopes up.
These two came into the thread and derailed a wagon on Pope. They say he's town with a bit too much confidence while completely ignoring/dismissing a solid case on him for no other reason than they claim to know his meta. They say meta, yet in all his games he's never been this irratic (and besides, meta only goes so far- especially on D1). They want to keep Pope because as Mara pointed out, he can be used as her (and apparently GiF's as well) puppet who will do whatever she tells him to do. Now, as evidenced by his recent posts, he's all too happy to obey their every whim. Not town motivated at all.

Mara is the lynch. Al reads town. Starstorm looked a bit bad, but look what day it is. Day 1! Many people are mislynched on D1. Nothing Al has posted has raised any flags with me and comes from the pov of looking for scum.

Mara and GiF are out for control. Please, don't give up day control to scum.

He totally misreped Whiteknighting there. Whiteknighting happens when scum swoops in to rescue a townie who has dug themselves a hole so deep they couldn't possibly be dug out. Defending someone is something that's done from the onset. Town wouldn't stop the wagon and disrespect all the work which has been done to reach that point when they replace in and someone is at that point.

While they may see the wagon as flawed, town replacements would usually wait for the next game day to point out the flaws. The way they have capitalized on the situation they replaced into, which I admit is a good move for scum, and centralized the discussion to their thoughts while dismissing everything outside their twosome and the using of another player as a tool to further an agenda is scummy.

Town move as a hive. Scum move individually. These guys are really good, but don't be manipulated into playing their game. Play your game.

As town, they have a better scumread and they would rather lynch their scumread. Or, they just simply don't want scums to go for easy lynch.

Bullshit GiF. Town should always be ready to get rid of a townie who is giving scum huge areas to hide in. Keeping a town who is playing like Pope~contributing no content and blindly sheeping another player no matter what they tell him to do, on D1nonetheless before any flips have happened to get true reads off~is decidedly NOT in the town's best interest.

I don't know about you, but I'm not willing to lynch off useless town when I have a scumread.
