In post 1348, Magua wrote:But town should've lost it the point where D3 ended with Darox not shooting.
I'll maintain until my dying day that Darox shooting at that point would have been a bad idea. We had less than 72h until deadline, which is officially the derpiest time for scumhunting. It's not like we had two good candidates for scum, and could shoot one and then lynch the other. Town was ALL over the place.

saulres: Your setup was fine (re: the dead thread). I didn't have all the pieces in front of me and could NOT figure out how it all went together.

The only reason it was 72 hours was that for the first 10 days of the Day, apparently no one (including Darox himself) bothered to say, "We should shoot someone" as more than a passing phrase. It was incredibly apathetic.

had darox shot you flay, I would have known right away scum was NS/NSin.

Gorckat's reaction to my note was town, magua's play was also much better than gorckat's making me feel better about the slot.

p.edit - yeah, Darox should have shot. early in the day would have been better so I am kind of disappointed in him for not doing that.

I think we suffered a bit from the AA9/Jake personality conflict, TIP's VI-ness and my own inability to put the time needed in (thanks, Magua, for doing the slot better service).

I think there is a worthy title nom somewhere between Jake 'dropping' the hammer and notsci swinging with it.

I have no idea why Darox played the way he did with his role.
I have no idea why TIP played the way he did with his role.
I have no idea why Kid A played the way he did with his role.
I have no idea why ArcAngel played the way she did with her role (though glad to see I was right about the Lovers-as-antitown thing).
I have no idea why I secondguessed Jake as Town, or why he turned on me permanently for worrying about his alignment.
I have no idea why everyone thought this was a no-VT game.
I have no idea why I never got around to suggesting a D1 flavorclaim.

I dunno if its nom worthy buy magua was an awesome replacement.

P.edit - your refusal to caps post for self preservation I didn't like. I don't see self preservation as town.

P.edit - had Darox shot again he would have been confirmed town IMO

Role PMs.

Spoiler: Darox
saulres wrote:You are
020: Library & information sciences
, aligned with the
town
.

Flavor:
That’s right, you’re the Librarian! Your goal is to shush the loud ones.

Ability:
Whenever you see someone “screaming” (using all-caps in a non-normal way) you can PM me a link to that post. I will edit the post with “The Librarian says shhh” or something to that effect. You may not report that post again.

Once per day, if you report someone for the third time this game (not necessarily using a post they made in the current day), they will be ejected from the library. Use of this ability is optional, and unreported screaming will not count.

Vote:
Of course, you can vote.

Win Condition
: You win when all threats to the town are dead.

Details

Game thread is here.
Please confirm by PM. Game will start roughly when 8 of 10 have confirmed.
Rolecop investigation returns: Vigilante

Note: While this role was designed to
limit
the amount of shouting, Darox figured out how to play it to maximize shouting :P I did rule that the way Flay and Jake used caps most of the time was as emphasis of one word, rather than as shouting; where I would use
italics
for emphasis, others used ALL-CAPS for emphasis That use was not a reportable one, because the flavor is "no shouting in the library". This made Darox sad.

Spoiler: TheIrishPope
saulres wrote:You are
115: Time
, aligned with the

Flavor:
You know all there is about time and how to control it. But it’s very taxing to do so.

Ability:
One twilight during the game, after a lynch but before the flip, you may turn back time. The day will start again, with no votes on anyone. If we’re more than halfway through the day, the new day deadline will be half as long as the original one. You will have 24 hours (no weekend extension) to decide if you want to overturn the lynch but please try to make the decision as soon as possible, to avoid people questioning the delay in the flip and assuming your role exists. I’ll accept pre-emptive ones to help avoid this (for example, “If <xxx> is lynched, undo it.”)

Vote:
Of course, you can vote.

Win Condition
: You win when all threats to the town are dead.

Details

Please confirm by PM. Game will start roughly when 8 of 10 have confirmed.
Rolecop investigation returns: Governor

Flavor:
Your main focus is baptism; you've sponsored so many children that many people have called you their Godfather. You've also been asked to do some exorcisms. Two in particular stand out. In the first you failed so utterly that the demon possessed you and turned you into one evil son of a bitch. The other was to try to oust a wolf from a human, Ingrid. But you were so intrigued by his/her desire desire to eat people you decided to help him/her do that. In order to do that, you and she may communicate here at all times. You and she can kill one person a night by posting
Kill: PlayerName
in that QT, which will go public after the game.

Ability:
You're still a Godfather, though. There is a Rolecop in this game. If they investigate you, they will get Vanilla Townie unless,
before the end of Night 1
, you provide me with a fake role you wish to claim. That role must have a Dewey Decimal number, specification, and if it's not vanilla, be based on some existing role on the mafiascum wiki.

Vote:
Of course, you can vote.

Win Condition
: You win when you control 50% of the town or nothing can stop that from happening.

Details

If Darox shot no one and we lynched Flay, it would've lost us the game, yeah.

It was more that, as of the start of D3, Town could control two deaths (Darox kill + lynch). With the NL, mafia got a kill and then Town would get one lynch.

So town gives up a Town-controlled kill *and* lets mafia kill first.

Trying to lynch Flay at the end of D3 was entirely anger on my part, because I could not fathom Flay-town just letting the dayvig shot go unused. That was what pushed me into tunnel mode on Flay. (Then he was all, "I ain't gonna let Darox shoot me!" etc)

*shrug* Darox was so evasive about his role I wasn't even sure I believed him about being multishot. But yeah, D3 was weirdly apathetic. Also while I get the 'letting yourself get shot is optimal' argument, it only makes sense from YOUR perspective, not mine. I know I'm a miskill, and with <72 left I had no faith in town responding to my death appropriately or effectively. Would have rather waited for another Day to figure things out (5 left would have meant we could have Darox shoot during Twilight, for double the chances to hit scum).

Yeah- the more I think about it, the less I think setting yourself up for vigging is a good idea.

Isn't town self-hammering bad? Seems the same principle applies.

Anyway, Jake totally gets MVP, but it is a little like winning the consolation bracket... this game was :?

saulres, you did a very good job on hindsight of putting in roles that would not confirm themselves 100%. That's a lot of what I fell prey to, trying to make the game make sense with partial information. However I'm a little concerned that massclaim+massshout probably would have broken the game for Town, given Darox's full power to kill...

Town self hammering in favor of no lynch is generally a good idea.

What's the alternative? Mafia kills someone and then the next Day you're just going to be wagoned again *anyway* for the exact same reason you were already wagoned.

Yes, a town should try to not get shot because they know they're town. But Flay had said, essentially, that he had no town reads, and had no strong scum reads. He didn't say, "Don't shoot me, shoot <someone else>," it was *just* "Don't shoot me." That's the part that rubbed me wrong.
Flay wrote:*shrug* Darox was so evasive about his role I wasn't even sure I believed him about being multishot. But yeah, D3 was weirdly apathetic. But then the next Day I'm still fixated on you, and you didn't do anything to try to figure things out (yes, you were on V/LA at Oakland, but you *knew that you were going to be V/LA during D3*).

(And that bit about Darox shooting at 5-player lylo during twilight is kind of b.s., since there was the uncertainty about whether he could shoot at all. Darox needed to shoot first, *then* we could lynch; if Darox didn't shoot, then there's all the "maybe he's lying about his role")

Not when you're at MyLo (and rarely any other time). You're mistaking EV and hindsight for what I was actually looking at - an apathetic playerbase, one more dead Town player, and a rogue Vig/SK/?. Yes, if we'd started talking about Darox shooting at the start of D3, that would be different (and I was even willing to talk about it 5 days from deadline, right after my VLA started). But less than 72 hours to deadline and everyone's favorite lynch candidate is all over the map? No thanks.

Somebody said it earlier - I come from a different meta. One that is unwilling to 'play the numbers' just for 4% better chance of not lynching wrong. You ALWAYS have a chance to talk it out the next Day.
