~Zeboim Ruins~

As Emeralda descended into the ruined cityscape, she prepared herself, both mentally and physically, for what she’d find below. There was no telling what had moved into this sublevel in the 4000 years since Solaris had destroyed this place.

The elevator creaked to a stop, and Emeralda looked around. The whole landscape resembled a giant dome, and she could tell there was rock above her, but it was too far above her to feel like anything more than the night sky. Enough light crept in from above to allow Emeralda to get her bearings, and she began to walk, not really knowing what she was looking for.

The area did not look like a war zone - there were no decomposed remains, no debris, and Emeralda wondered just how these people died, and perhaps more importantly, how long it had taken.

Something brushed past her leg, and she looked down to barely catch the faint silhouette of some type of rodent scurry off into the distance. So there
was
life here. This was both encouraging and cause for alarm at the same time - encouraging because the radiation levels of this place had returned to a low enough point to sustain life (not that it truly mattered to her synthetic self), but with small creatures often came much
bigger
ones.

Emeralda walked for what seemed like days. There was very little else of notice besides the small glimpses of animal and plant life that had survived the selection pressure of having very little available sunlight. She pressed on, but slowed when she saw a change in the scenery.

While it was hard to be absolutely certain, the environment seemed to be getting more urban. The buildings, while almost universally having lost some semblance of structural integrity, were beginning to be placed closer together and smaller. Confident that she was heading in a relevant direction, she decided to stop and rest. Deciding that one of the dilapidated buildings would be perfect to hide her for the night (assuming they could be trusted not to collapse with the slightest interaction), Emeralda decided on an accessible looking hovel right off the main road.

Stepping inside, Emeralda found that the light was now almost nonexistent. She’d prepared for that, however, and drew a portable electric lantern from her pack.

The warm glow immediately permeated the darkness, casting shadows that danced all over the walls around her. Looking around, Emeralda saw nothing of interest on the walls, but paused when a section of the floor seemed higher off the ground then the rest.

Creeping up to it, Emeralda held her light in front of her until she could clearly see the bedroll, backpack, and other assorted supplies, neatly organized around the corner of the room.

Almost dropping her lantern, she instinctively backed away, but her movement was stopped quickly as she slammed into something that hadn’t been there a moment earlier.

“Well, this certainly is rich,” came an amused sounding female voice.

Emeralda spun around and backed away, fists clenched. “Identify yourself.”

The woman ignored her. “One expects to find sentient life down here. Maybe a rogue gear or two.

“But I certainly didn’t expect you to be stupid enough to come back here so soon, Emeralda Kasim.”

Emeralda’s blood turned cold. “H-how do you know me?” she asked, a tremble in her voice giving away her shock.

The woman stepped closer, and Emeralda could finally make out her features. Young, extraordinarily beautiful, with short purple hair and a sardonic expression that looked tailor made for her face. “But who else could you be? A young girl wandering this barren wasteland? For what could you possibly be searching if not your progenitor?”

At the mention of Kim, Emeralda momentarily forgot herself. “Where is he?!”

“Dead,” the woman said plainly. “What were you expecting? It’s been 4000 years.”

“He...he must have left something behind,” Emeralda declared defiantly. He
had
to have left something for her to find. Something that explained her purpose.

The woman actually giggled. “Of
course
he did,” she said, and her eyes locked with Emeralda’s.

She doesn’t mean…
Emeralda backed away yet further. The woman responded in kind, advancing until Emeralda’s back hit the wall.

The woman closed the distanced, reached her figure out, and playfully pressed it against Emeralda’s nose. “You.”

Something in Emeralda’s core bristled with revulsion at the touch, and inexplicably a name manifested on the top of her tongue.

“Miang,” Emeralda spat.

Miang’s eyes almost sparkled. “That certainly saves us some time. But now even you must see: you possess information about a multitude of topics about which you are unaware.”

Miang’s grin turned predatory. “Information that I intend to have.”

Emeralda struck instantly, headbutting the other girl and sending Miang back reeling momentarily. In one adept move, she leaped along the sides of the room, grabbing her pack and flying out the door, not looking back.

She had no idea how this woman could be that same person, but she knew that Miang had murdered her father, somehow, 4000 years ago. Kim had, apparently, programmed her with at least a partial imprint of his own experiences, which included the duplicitous woman that had been -- and Emeralda found she had an answer -- the Zeboim prime minister’s wife?

Yet Zeboim was gone, and Miang lived. She knew she was dealing with someone much more powerful and deadly than a simple politician.

She retreated into the cityscape, at this point simply hoping to lose her pursuer.

-----------------

As Miang watched Emeralda leave, holding her bloodied nose, the expression on her face did not change.

Run, little girl. We have all the time in the world.

~Northern Aveh territory

Sigurd and Seraphita slogged through the suddenly treacherous terrain. They’d signalled for backup as soon as Seraphita had detected the incoming hostiles, but that sort of response time could vary based on time of day, number of other threats in the vicinity, and other unforecastable factors.

His companion’s eagerness had evaporated almost comically when the two blips on her panel had turned into five, and they’d immediately turned tail and looked for terrain they could use to their advantage. Which, being in the desert, was not in high supply.

“Quit falling behind, old man!” Seraphita taunted in her sing-song voice, which Sigurd had come to recognize not as arrogance, but as her special way of motivating people around her to be faster, better. He wasn’t even sure that was her intent, but it very likely contributed to the viability of the Element team with her as one of its members. When Sigurd had counted himself in those ranks, much of their training was centered on working in tandem with this three other squadmates.

The end result was that Sigurd indeed did double his efforts and catch up. Scanning the area, and working off the fact that this was his native soil he began to rattle off possible methods of eluding their pursuers. “The ground under this area is extremely unstable,” he informed Seraphita. “There are vast caves that reach across all of Northern Aveh all the way to the forest to the North and the coast to the South. Still, entering one without making it obvious that we did is an obvious problem.”

He mulled it over a bit more. “No, I think our best bet might be to try to hit higher ground. We’d be pinned down for a bit, but we only
need
a bit.”

Sigurd grimaced. “That is, of course, operating on the assumption that we’re being reinforced at all.” The alternative being that they were screwed no matter what they did. He did not say this.

“You got it, boss,” came the response. “I don’t have a, um, tobleronic map on this thing. Do you?”

Topographic,
” he muttered, doubting the comm picked it up. “No. But I know the area. The ground is pretty much flat out east of here, but it’s closer to our forward base. Still, our units can track us at a longer range than the enemy can. I think we need to head west.”

Seraphita adjusted her course 90 degrees to port, and the evening horizon glowed in the distance as they covered ground.

---------------------------------------------

“I think we may have lost them,” Sigurd remarked, sometime later.

“Yep!” Seraphita affirmed. “What now?”

Sigured checked his instruments. “We need to double back, but if we hug the mountain range and go north, we can easily head back to Lahan in about--”

He didn’t get to finish his sentence as he became aware of the ground vibrating around him. “Do you…?”

“What the
hell?!
” Seraphita interjected, clearly as surprised as he. “It’s coming from under us!”

Sigurd was about to give the order to retreat when a massive object burst from under the sand in front of them, piercing the ground and immediately leveling out in a maneuver that he’d seen hundreds of times.

You have got to be kidding me.

“Boss?!” Seraphita was frantically awaiting instructions.

“Stand down.” Sigurd ordered.

What could now be identified as a submarine, specially outfitted to operate in the sand, now lay surfaced in front of them, and the hatch promptly opened.

The man who appeared on the other side and long blonde hair, a red collared vest, and a smirk that Sigurd wanted nothing more than to wipe off the other man’s face.

“Ahoy there,” Bartholomew Fatima greeted them, smile plastered on his face. “I had to kick it into overdrive to catch you guys.”

“...Young master,” Sigurd said, tight lipped.
Showoff.

If nothing else he’d get some of Maison’s tea out of it.

So the people mastin mentioned as confirmed town are officially confirmed town now, if I read that correctly. Probably three more to go.

Will get confirmation from bork that I'm reading the flip correctly. If so, hello there, confirmed townblock.

I'm confused
The Inquisitor is a self-aligned role with aspects of both the Serial Killer and the Cult Leader. Its Night Action is simply its factional kill (like a Serial Killer); however, if for some reason the Inquisitor's victim survives the kill, the victim will instead have its alignment changed to match that of the Inquisitor. In this sense, it is a Serial Killer that has a chance to pick up allies.
The existence of an Inquisitor usually suggests that there are multiple protective abilities in play during the game so as to allow the possibility of recruitments.
As always, care should be taken with recruitment, as Inquisitor is generally able to recruit Anti-Town players and recruited players keep their former abilities. For more information, see Cult. The recruited players do not gain access to the factional kill if the Inquisitor dies.
Even more interesting with Venmar's PGO claim. Please help me out of this confused state...

And if andy is softing what he seems to have been softing, he can take that list down further.

P-edit: Waynegg, look at mastin's flip. They were masons with their own power roles they could share results on.

Also, that's not the actual role he has obviously. Bork is using flavor names for normal power roles. Like mine is called "purifier" but it's a one-shot vanillize that fails should it hit town.

But inquisitor isn't cop. It's a factional kill and alignment changer. Mason also doesn't make them both town.
