Do people really believe that Thor is scum? I don't have much experience playing with him, but he did school me in my first newbie game. He doesn't seem to be acting the way he did in that game, where he came out the gate at full tilt and was putting people on their heels to start with. I am not getting the same vibe I was in that game at all. I would firmly put him as town, and those who are still pushing this ill advised and misshapen train on him should reevaluate their positions.
Do you really only have on e game of scum experience with Thor and you feel comfortable enough calling him firmly town and calling people to get off that wagon or reconsider their opinions?

Can you explain the strength of this read?

His scum game and his town game are quite similar. We talked about it once in a game, and he said that he's worked to keep his meta similar between games.

I think there are slight differences or at least I think I do, but we'll see! Maybe one game I'll even be right.

Hint: it's not pro-town when she does it either.
Additional Hint: when a scumhunting "style" is described as "unexplainable" I always translate that to "illogical and should be ignored because they're making gak up and lack the grapefruits to just say so either to others, and possibly themselves."

@ empire

congrats on passing the bar exam! Image

@ desp

yes I think the stup wagon is easy and not very legit.

my people of interest so far:

quadz - when I try to get a feel for him he is simply not there. usually when this happens the player turns out to be scum it is just hard as hell to get other people to see it. also he is pursuing peripheral things but dunno, he is on weaker end of the poi list and I have never played with him before tho.
goat people - I do not even remotely want this to be true but he is scum I am pretty sure of it and it makes me want to cry. strongest scumread
alfred - I also don't want this to be true but I think they are. never played with them before but they are hitting all of the wrong notes when they actually scumhunt. more waltzing required.
amrun - when she is town she is another 1 who can send up a super strong town signal. not feeling it here. and I don't like her fade which happened before the weekend.
garrut - I am not sure they have made a single post that liked but I really really want to talk to mac about it.

so what I have is a lynchpool of 4 people whom I like and it will probably be hard to come up with reasons that are convincing enough to push their lynches through. so I am looking around and seeing what else shakes out. zden is another 1 who is out of step and I might go with him in the end.

Okay. You didn't do one in the mini we just played so I was trying to gauge what is normal for you.

------------

In other news I'm caught up but that doesn't mean anything special. I need to reread the game as I just didn't really digest much of what was said. I won't have time to really do that before a couple days though.

My town reads still stand as Alfred, nautilus, syry, mollie, tierce with weaker reads on benmage, elleheathen and quadz. There are some other people I feel like I should have a better handle on at this point but a couple have been caught up in wall debates and I always need more time to parse through those.

Still don't have any great scum reads and I'm starting to rethink my stupendous scum read but I need to think about that. Syry is trying to get me to vote safetydance and well see about that, but I want to go back and read his play in the wire and check out a scum game first. Empire and I did a bit of a meta dive on him in the wire, but I can't remember any of his markers, so ill have to do that again.

Yeah this is largely unhelpful but I feel like a lot of this game is just passing me by but I hope to fix that this weekend, that or someone can just wake me up day two and let me know if I need to reset my entire thinking due to multiball or continue on this path. /whining

I still don't like Zdenek. Amrun has moved into nullish territory, though that may be due to her being less of a presence in-thread.

I'm also growing more paranoid of Goat; I think I may be unintentionally giving them a pass because CDB is the Coolest Dude.

Mr S Mans: Honestly that's hard to answer. I still stand by my Cephir vote, even if I can't word hat he's still offputting. It's weird because it's kind of like, I want to like him, but there's just something that keeps making me say no, restraining order. Even then it's not really the kind of thing I would draw steamboats around. It's more like who am I not feeling like is super town, which would be a shorter list? Goat people, quadz, ooba, zdenek who I thought was okay at first but is kind of eh, Garruk, everyone else is either super town or on slash ignore in my brain

@Tammy

I initially read Thor as town because of the game we had played before. In the game he starts breaking people down from the first post he makes. Thor whittles mutley down until he basically implodes. Thor hammers him so hard that he ends up claiming a PR that led an actual PR to out himself, due to set up limitations, and then claims scum when the votes were in (spoiler- Mutley was a VT). Here is a link to the game where Thor was scum:
http://forum.mafiascum.net/viewtopic.ph ... ser_select

I don't see Thor doing that this game, hell he didn't even read the prior posts when he came in. I would expect scumThor to not let any perceived slip to let lie. From what I experienced I would see him laying into everyone/anyone for anything he thought he could get some mileage out of. In fact he is almost being entirely reactionary this game, only responding to those who are engaging him.

The rest of my read on Thor came out of the Miller claim and the subsequent discussion with elle, cephrir, and benmage. I didn't want to affect the conversation by inserting myself into it at the time though. The fact that a few people seemed to not be able to wrap their heads around his claim, continued to push his lynch, and the way he handled himself since the accusations started all led me to solidify my original read on Thor as town.

You still haven't explained why I, a person you assumed was attacking over the slip, got attacked whilst two other players who specifically were attacking over the slip were not.
In post 996, Benmage wrote:-I wholly disagree with your drastic conclusion that what you said and what I said are anywhere near similar.
As far as I was concerned, you connected a "slip" as a scum read, and wanted to lynch the person the slip is about as the next lynch if the first were to flip scum. I said the first may flip scum, but such a flip would have no reflection upon the second person, whom you wanted to see hung.... Whats the word...
'lining up lynches'
if you will.
Which is nothing like you saying that I'm lining up lynches does with your read of me if he flips scum?
It's the same sort of thing except you're using a different weak connection than the one you feel I'm using.
I don't think either is intrinsically scummy - but the double standard from you is.
What am I missing here?
In post 996, Benmage wrote:So since I seem to be confused by which connective tell you were using, please quote for me the Naut post you had issues with, and break down why this gave you a connective scum tell for me... as if I were a 5 year old (I simply hate ambiguity, see above confusion). Thank you.
I didn't connect them to you - what are you talking about?
I did say you connected us to them...is that what you mean? For that - you did it yourself, so I have no idea why you need me to quote it.

As far as the post I had issues with, it was Posts 834-835 on this page; http://forum.mafiascum.net/viewtopic.ph ... &start=825
The way both of them denied it in weaksauce ways wherein one was like "But Elli hasn't even been in the QT" which is not a defense, and the guy who *did* nameslip about Elli points out he has only ever played with Elli once, which seems to strengthen the value of the slip tell, not weaken it/ Both were too worked up over it, making me feel there is something there.

@Goat - if you want a good wagon, the Amrun one is right here for you. Why avoid it in favor of Safety?

@Chephir - you keep harping on the cherry pick and now bring up that I did the worst ones first...um...was my response to the 2nd set you demanded that hard? Both you (and her) even admitted the points I hadn't addressed were weak and silly, so...where are you coming from suggesting I avoided the tough ones? Can you support that claim?

Desp is winning the debate with Ceph easily.
Frankly he's re convincing me that Ceph needs death.

I like the Zdenek slot more now than I did - move it to nullish.

@Mollie - he did replace out for that, and I actually don't even think it was that rude on my part. Maybe I'm a total jerk and can't tell, but I personally think I hit too close to home and that's why he reacted so strongly. Draw your own conclusions. It's still pretty clear that a scumhunting style that can't be explained lacks logic - that's pretty much the definition of a method that can't be explained.

You're wrong about Alfred also - look at his defense and reasoning to clear Benmage. That's pretty amazing scum play if he's scum. (well, I guess the could be buddies...but then it's really ballsy scumplay, so same reasoning to call him townish)

@Tammy - so...discussing reads makes him town? Isn't that sort of scum 101 in a Neighborhood?

As a general note, I will add that I don't think Former has a clear handle on my meta, nor on how it shifts from a Newbie mini to an experienced Large.
He's still 'right' but for wrong reasons.
I'll actually slide Messiah into my slightly scum pile for it too, simply because I would expect Former to be a bit more inherently paranoid. This level of trust feels off.
