Don't spend RP on champs. IP falls from the skies after a while. Spend RP on skins. Also Mundo sucks right now but I think he's cool so w/e.

should probably be amended to "if you plan on spending large amounts of time playing this game, don't spend RP on champs, else only spend RP on champs 6300IP+ in cost that you've played and enjoyed or feel are useful to have for draft mode purposes if thats your thing"

rune investment especially for newer players is a more important use of IP than champ purchases

The timeframe around when you hit level 20 is the most frustrating part of the game just because you have to spend a ton of IP on runes, but you likely only unlocked around 8 champions depending on how cheap the ones you have are. There's so much crap to buy in order to be at least somewhat efficient in gaining skill. I skimped a lot on runes back then and I'm not sure if I care enough to get a few more sets or not at this point since they're so expensive.

for what it's worth, I haven't felt IP poor, and I'm 27. Admittedly, I've been judicious with my Runes and stuff, but it hasn't been difficult as long as I don't spend it on the 6300 champs. Biggest thing I've been resisting spending RP on is extra rune pages.

I'd say that buying champs with RP is fine if they are 6300s on sale. Also, the starter champion packs. Otherwise, don't.

@Zor, I suggest making due with the 2 default rune pages and waiting around for Riot to have a sale of some kind. I got lucky not that long ago and got a bogo deal on rune pages. With end of the season, Halloween and xmas all coming up you have a decent chance of getting something similar, or at least a "bonus RP" package sometime soon.

I stand by "no RP for champs." It's just a patience thing. I bought a champ pack around the first week or so I started, which may have been worth it but realistically I only play about 3 or 4 of the 20 I got. Twas nice having variety and consistency w/o having to drop ip early on though. Made saving for runes really easy for me.

It took me about a year of a fuckton of play to catch up and own every champ. Now I gain IP at a rate faster than the release schedule.

And this was with buying the original 40 with RP, and buying a handful of 6300s with RP before I'd caught up.

Owning every champ is insanely valuable for ranked.

I'm down to 10 champions left to buy and I've only ever spent RP on two release champions (Sejuani, Graves) and on probably 10ish champions on sale.

I'm sitting at 52/115 after 9 months and only ip outside of that 1 champ bundle. I hit up all the cheaper champs first, so slogging through the 6300s will take a bit. I'm fairly happy with my selection though.
