So, I've been thinking about this a bit, and ranged champions have more success, right? Because they don't commit to fights as much and can trade efficiently. Obviously, a ranged champ will win against a melee champ (unless massive gap in skill level lol). But, then I think about how melees are tankier to accommodate for bullies like Vayne, Cait, these monsters with massive range that can walk away without a scratch. They also give melee champs ranged abilities (Malphite's Q), steroids (Jax's ult or Yi's ult), and gapclosers to get into people's faces (Lee Sin lol).
So, two questions arise from this:
Are ranged champions better at early game because melees are not tanky enough?
What is the risk v. reward of a ranged champion and the risk v. reward of a melee champion?
Bonus:
How do you pronounce "melee"?

I'm not sure what your premise is. Ranged champs are more successful in what context? You can't just compare them in a void. They each fill certain roles in a game and complement each other.

Also, melee is pronounced "may-lay".

On the melee vs Ranged bit, too many variables to say one way or the other, but most carries are better late then early.

ADCs tend to be pretty shit early game.
Tanky Bruisers tend to be pretty good early game.
AP Carries tend to be in the middle.

This is because ADCs need items to fully get going, while a majority of the power in a bruiser is in their skills. AP Carries are this weird thing where some of them are great early and shit late, shit early but good mid/late, etc.etc.

Reason I'm only playing Shen with friends. People expect to ult on them when they are caught 3v1.

let's be honest, Yes, they coulda been being rude to him, but thre's a good chance he was playing him wrong too. I see bad shen's all the time. ALL THE TIME. I have seen some good Shen's and yes Shen does take communication to play at the highest level, but still a lot of people play a bad shen.

you can learn a lot about jungling just by watching them play
