There had been a lot of yelling over the course of the day.

And then it would quiet down for a bit.

And then the yelling would resume.

I wasn't paying an overly large amount of attention -- I was too busy working on my Powerpoint presentation for Mr. Thompson. Totally unrelated to the goings-ons with the murders and the lynches, it was just another task I was saddled with.

I did take a break every once in awhile to find out if anyone wanted any lemonade, or water, or soda.

The last time I looked up from my laptop, everyone was standing around DoctorPepper, muttering angry things like, "Say something!", "Say anything!", "He can die for all I care," and the like.

DoctorPepper didn't respond, except once, to look them all in the face and say, "Y'all suck."

Just like with Hermy before, they took that as a sign of guilt and strung him up by the food court lights.

Except this time, when we went and ransacked DoctorPepper's Pagoda of Peppery Packages, we found a black hat and a plan for taking over the town by killing people in it. Clear signs of evilness.

I was sleeping peacefully, having my favorite dream: fifty thousand rows in an Excel spreadsheet and no floating-point errors making the totals all wrong.

In my dream, I was running from office to office showing people the wonders of my spreadsheet, and outside I could hear fireworks going off in celebration. Then I was on the roof of the mall, watching the huge Fourth of July celebration in my honor. Then it started to rain.

I woke with a start to the drizzle of the sprinkler system soaking through my makeshift blanket. Down one of the wings of the mall, I could hear the bang-bang-bang of explosives.

Slipping and sliding on the wet tiled floor, I ran down to find Pyrotechnics' Pyrotechnics[1] aflame, fireworks inside it continuing to go off despite the fire safety system.

It was awhile before the damage was cleaned up and the mall made presentable again, even with the profusion of "Pardon Our Dust" signs and tarps. Not knowing what to do with the body, we dragged it to the food court with the rest of them, because the health inspectors had been here just last month and so weren't due again until next year.

"Right," I said, looking at the assembled crowd. "Those bastards ruined my favorite dream. Let's make 'em pay."

[1] Look, their strength was in flammable explosives, not originality.
