Game Rules

All Forum Rules and Guidelines should be followed, along with the following rules.

Game Timeline

• Day phases will last two weeks.
  
• Night phases will last three days.

General Rules

• Do not quote your role PM or any other PM/QT communication from the mod.
  
• Do not contact any player in or outside of the game about the game.
  
• Do not use encrypted or hard-to-see text (including "invisible" text, text below the 50% text size option, or text hidden via BBCode (not including spoilered text)).
  
• Do not edit or delete posts in this thread. If you made a formatting mistake, I will fix it for you (if it doesn't change the content of the post).

Activity

• If a player doesn't post in-game after a period of 48 hours, other players may request a prod of that player.
  
• If a player doesn't post in-game after a period of 72 hours and another player hasn't made a request, I will prod that player.
  
• If a player is prodded, that player has 24 hours to make an in-game post before a replacement will be found.
  
• If a player receives multiple prods and/or prod-dodges excessively, that player will be subject to a force-replace.
  
• If you are going to be absent for a specific period of time, please let me know ahead of time!

Votes and Lynching

• Votes must be in the format of VOTE: Player Name or
  VOTE: Player Name
  . Abbreviations, missing punctuation, and misspellings will be accepted as long as it is obvious to me who is being voted for. If I perceive it as a vote, it will count as a vote.
  
• Unvotes are not necessary to change a vote.
  
• A player will be lynched if a majority of the players have voted for that player.
  
• You may vote for a

  . If a majority of players vote for a No Lynch, the game will proceed to Night without a lynch.

This game is using the standard Newbie Game setup, Matrix6. One row or one column will be randomly chosen from the table below and the remaining six roles will be filled in by Mafia Goons and Vanilla Townies as appropriate to create a total of 2 Mafia-aligned players and 7 Town-aligned players.

Now, you may be thinking "no fair, she's got more experience, clearly she will pwn newbs". That's only somewhat true. Some newbies have played many a game of Mafia elsewhere. Besides this, experience counts against me as well: you all are able to look up my past games and see how I've played in them. I can't because most of you don't have any. So it's a fairly even split.

On Mafiascum.net I'm SE. When it comes to playing Mafia, it's about 6 years. I'm known to do risky(fun) gambits as Town, and am good at being Scum. Work has kept me working night and day some 60+ hours per week, and with four other games it can be tough to contribute.

If you're new, as GM stated know you can trust her on game theory, but don't assume she's Town. People can be surprisingly devious in this game, as well as paranoid. I prefer noting what people have done, and, adjacently... speculating on who may or may not have done what. Some think speculation is bad in Mafia, but until the game starts unfolding, it's quite important.

Also, it's great to be active and generate discussion. As Town I usually serve as a catalyst to really heat things up. Scum loves it when people are disinterested and don't contribute because it makes life very easy for them. Lob some accusations, analyze what people do and say, question things, and don't be afraid of stupid people who just want to be obstructionists.

Keep doing that, and maybe, just maybe Scum will slip. Scum has an extreme advantage over us, and they'll expect us to fight and flail against one another in the dark, instead of being calm, considerate, and being willing to work together.

Are roles/alignments here completely randomized? It seems like it could be off-balance to put all the SEs and IC as town, in which case it is likely one or more of them is on the scum team.

There are occasional exceptions (there was a Theme game where you were guaranteed to get a role you'd never had before, iirc), but not in Newbie games.
