Maokai's probably like 3rd tier right now, which is fairly irrelevant given that you have 2 tier 1s and more than enough tier 2s to fill the space.

But cheap saplings + Quill Coat item path + more vision on SOTAG + % dmg on W = a very strong jungler

He has incredible early ganking power and objective control and then late game he's an unkillable peel master

A while ago I remember seeing an AP Maokai mid who used saplings to bully midlaners much like a bombing Ziggs. Anyone know if that still works post-rework?

Reck is saying that he's very good at peeling, which means he has lots of way to prevent enemy champions from killing the champions on your team that do damage (his q is a knockback, his w is a root, his e slows, his r reduces damage)

I'm falling slowly in love with MF. There's this weird point though where her ult feels useless if it hits any less than 4 people. I mean, my q was doing INSANE damages (crazy ratios, man) by the endgame, but my ult was still doing a little bit.

I've been loving duelist MF since preseason, she's so fun! Getting triforce on her, while not the most popular build, actually has some decent results - with it, almost no other ADC can beat her in a straight 1v1 thanks to both Q and W.

And the ult can also be used like Lucian's if the other team isn't grouped up (i.e. hitting someone out of range of your regular skills).

TriForce MF is so underrated - you get Phage and Sheen proc from your Q, so rushing it is totally legit in lane. Then you can shit on your lane with ult.

Alternatively, full-pen MF is a walking ult if the enemy team has little/no hard cc. Her ult just wrecks it's hilarious.

I've played Midkai to great effect, he was a fantastic pick for those times when you get trynd top / yi jungle and have no kind of cc or tank. Rush a chalice, max e, become the undying sapling tossing terror of midlane.
Sadly they hit both his base damage and ratios when they did this little rework to him. In a way it's nice because he's kinda back as a jungler, but he's certainly dead as a midlaner.

I was writing up a thing refuting this point...then I actually took a look at her AP ratios vs AD ratios on the ult and it's cray cray.

Straight up though, it's only +30AP which at the max 1.6 ratio (assuming you hit every wave) that's only 48 damage on the whole ult, about a 10% increase in damage at level 1.


I totally agree that Triforce MF is a boss, but it's a lot more about the Spellblade proc. It doesn't really help you shit on anyone in lane. MF's ult is awesome when you can hit 5 people. If you're hitting the 2 in lane, q is stronger (esp. with spellblade).


I agree with your other point though, penetration MF. I like a black cleaver ult right through their team. 8 waves gives you the full 25% strip, on all members, while pushing crazy amounts of physical damage into them. <3 <3 <3


Can someone confirm for me, MF's ult isn't like Graves' Q is it? It doesn't matter if you're right in front of her or at the very edge of the range? You get the damage per wave, not per bullet that passes through your hitbox?

Have you tried BC & LW at once, Oman? Seriously. Do it sometime. It's hilarious. And Graves Q does damage per bullet hit - 100% for the first one, I believe 35% for the other 2 if they all hit the same target. But you do get damage per wave on MF ult.

Except you have relatively little jungle pressure early, because Lee/Elise/Eve/Vi/J4 all beat the shit out of you if you are near them ever, and if you get the 2v1, you dont provide enough damage to burst them down, and your reduced W range means that the enemy laner has to be more overextended for a gank to go off. You can't go for dives, because your extra early tankiness doesnt compensate for the fact that you have to sit under turret longer to get the kill (and champs like Lee/Elise/Eve have ways to get out of turret range once they've dived). Yeah, you have good peel, but in solo queue, that only means so much, especially when you can't win your team mates' lanes as hard as the top junglers.

If you're going to argue the vision point:

1) Tons of early vision early matters less in solo queue than in competitive, because players don't communicate as much and don't understand how to abuse jungler locations as well.

2) Nunu does it better, because you can rush sightstone before Golem without gimping yourself horribly, while still providing awesome peel later in the game.

Actually, come to think of it, Maokai and Nunu have a lot of the same strengths (even if they execute on them in different ways), except Nunu is just a shitton better early while being probably lateral to Maokai end-game (Maokai has more cc, Nunu gives your ADC a fuckton more damage and mobility)

The reason this worked before is that old E hit about as hard as Annie ult if you hit both parts. It no longer does that, so it's no longer viable.
