While I'm here, can someone tell me the guidelines for eventual modding? As in how one works their way from playing in the newbie queue to being allowed to mod open set-up games?
I saw a post that showed the guidelines, but I haven't been able to track it down. I'm interested in running set-ups used on another site.

As the last rays of sunlight fade, one killer chases another through the tangled madness of the city.
A flash of steel announces the presence of his quarry.
The stage is set.
The night explodes.
The only flavor will be crudely done MS Paintings by yours truly.
I have pre-ins from AGar and Tammy.
Days are 2 weeks; Nights are 48 hours. Prods go out after 48 hours and have a 12 hour response time.
No hydras.
Spoiler: Full Ruleset
Rules
(Modified from Amrun, who referenced a bunch of people)
Personal attacks will not be tolerated. Use of homophobic, racist, sexist, or any other derogatory slurs falls under this rule. Keep it civil.
Play to your win condition.
Unless otherwise specified in your role PM or by me, you may not communicate outside of this thread while the game is running.
Do not quote or post any screen captures of any private communication to which you have access. This includes game-related PMs, Private Topics, and instant messaging logs. Paraphrasing is okay.
If it is not visible to the naked eye, do not post it. This includes, but is not limited to: invisible text, tiny text, encrypted text, and text hidden within tags. Spoiler= text, however, is allowed, as long as it is used within reason
If you have the ability to edit your posts, don't use it in my game.
Orange
is reserved for me. All other formatting is fair game with the provision that you do not impersonate me or post in hidden text, as covered in another rule.
Do not use any form of verifiable randomness (such as dice tags).
Activity
Prods will be issued to players if they have not posted within a 48-hour period. Players who have been prodded have 12 hours to respond
in the game thread
before a replacement is sought.
Players who have been prodded 3 times are subject to replacement without further notice. After three prods, replacements will happen upon my discretion. Prod timers re-set with each new game Day.
Posting content is an absolute must. If a player posts nothing but prod dodges for an entire game Day, he or she will be subject to replacement upon my discretion.
If you anticipate being away for at least 48 hours, please PM me AND post a V/LA notice in the thread with the expected date of your return.
Day
Days will have a fixed deadline of 14 real-time days. Deadline extensions will be granted only in extreme circumstances.
Players may vote to No Lynch; a no lynch will occur if 50% of players vote for no lynch or if no majority is achieved by deadline.
Lynch is achieved by simple majority.
Once majority is reached, no further votes or unvotes will count.
I would prefer if votes are on a separate line and flushed left, and they MUST be bolded (e.g.,
Vote: Mohamed Morsi
). The same applies to vote revocations (e.g.,
Unvote
). Unvotes are preferred but not necessary when switching votes (e.g.,
Unvote, Vote: Abdel Fattah el-Sisi
). Use of the vote tags (e.g., VOTE: Rick Santorum) is optional. Abbreviations are okay as long as it's clear for whom the vote is made. It is up to my discretion whether a questionable vote counts.
If I think it's a vote, it is a vote.
All players, including the lynched player, are allowed to discuss in twilight phase until I post the death scene.
Dead players may make one "Bah!" post that contains no game-related content.
Night
Nights in this game will have a 48 hour deadline.
Players who have a night action to submit must send it in before the announced deadline. I accept provisional actions up until the announced deadline, at which time I will use the last action submitted. No action submitted means no action performed.
Moderator Actions
Flavor is for entertainment purposes only and has no significance in the game.
If there is an error in the vote count or something similar, bold your concern in the thread.
If you have any questions for me, bold them in thread or PM them to me. I reserve the right to not answer questions.
Violations of these rules will result in consequences. Pretending to violate these rules will also result in consequences. What those consequences are depend on the severity of the action and on the game state.
Any situation not covered above will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
I reserve the right to add, modify, or remove rules as necessary. I will notify you of all changes in the thread.
Please contact me if you need clarification on anything in the rules.
This game is a Mini Normal and adheres to all appropriate guidelines. There is at least one Vanilla Townie in this game.
Sample VT Role PM wrote:Greetings [player]! You are a
Vanilla Townie
. You have no special powers. You win when all living players are aligned with the
Town
. The game thread is [here].
Confirm by stating your role and alignment in a reply PM.
To be clear: my avatar was drawn by SaveTheDragons.
Do not quote your role PM or any other PM/QT communication from the mod or regarding any player in this game.
ALL paraphrasing is A-OK.
Do not contact any player in or outside of the game about the game.
Do not use encrypted or hard-to-see text (including "invisible" text, text below the 50% text size option, or text hidden via BBCode (not including spoilered text).
Don't accuse other players of cheating openly. Please PM the host your suspicions instead.
Also, pretending to break a rule to fake or psyche out other players is the same as rulebreaking. You can lie and bluff all you want, otherwise.
Play to your win condition (play to win.)
If someone is modkilled, their alignment will change to “neutral survivor” and there will be no chance of them winning the game, even if their original faction wins.
I reserve the right to change the rules at any time, including while the game is ongoing, although there will be a warning in-thread if this happens.
I'll give each player three chances to not break the rules. 3 strikes, you're out. If you do this, you'll get modkilled, and your death scene won't be nice, either.
Scum win when their numbers equal or exceed that of the Town's.
Activity
If a player doesn't post in-game after a period of 72 hours and another player hasn't made a request, I will gently remind that player via PM with link.
If a player is inactive after 3 days (72 hours), a prod will be given; the player has an additional 3 days to respond to the prod. Ignoring a prod = forced replacement. 3 prods = forced replacement.
If a replacement isn't found within a week, that slot will be modkilled.
Please keep an eye on your messages for PMs from the mod.
If you are going to be absent for a specific period of time, please let me know ahead of time!
Votes and Lynching
Votes must be in the format of
VOTE: Player Name
. Abbreviations, missing punctuation, and misspellings will be accepted as long as it is obvious to me who is being voted for. If I perceive it as a vote, it will count as a vote.
Unvotes are not necessary to change a vote.
A player will be lynched if a simple majority of the players have voted for that player. A lynch occurs when half of players + 1—rounded down—vote the same person.
Once I have posted your death scene, you may not post.
You may change your vote as many times as you wish.
After a lynch has been made, all players including the one who was lynched may continue to post until I lock the thread. This is the “twilight” phase.
If a majority of votes is not reached by deadline, there will be no lynch for that day.
Anybody can vote not to lynch by saying
VOTE: No Lynch
/VOTE: No Lynch.
Dead players stay dead, meaning they're not allowed a "bah" post.
Behavior
Harassment of an individual player is NOT permitted. While this is a competitive game, no personal attacks will be tolerated.
As said before, always play to your win condition. If you get yourself lynched, you'll lose next game.
Do not discuss this game anywhere else with anyone else unless your role allows you to.
Whatever you do, please don't replace out over hurt feelings. The game is what you make of it.
Setup
This game has a Day start.
This is a Closed Setup. Players won't know exactly which PRs are at play.
The game's 15:3:3 Fifteen Townies, three Red Scum, three Blue Scum.
There may be duplicate roles, and they can be either Town or Scum.
Scum do not have Daytalk. They may scheme in their QT thread at Night.
There may be a Neighborhood, or multiple Neighborhoods.
Roleblockers cannot be roleblocked.
Any role may be Town or Scum.
Mod is NOT infallible. If you suspect a mistake, please let me know via PM right away.
Should a Neighborhood be reduced down to one player, that QT link will be locked immediately, and remain hidden until game's end.
Please read these rules one more time.
Sample Role PM:
Welcome to NY177! You are a
Vanilla Townie
!
Abilities
- You have your voice and your vote. Use them wisely.
Win Condition
- You win when all threats to the town are eliminated
~ Since it's a Large game, I'm willing to allow Hydras. At most 4, please. I don't require them to disclose their heads; only if they wish.

↑Tierce wrote:As of today, hydras (accounts with more than one player behind them) are formally banned from Normal games.
This does not apply retroactively to those games already going on; if you have a hydra in a Normal game, the hydra can play the game to completion. However, it applies to replacements: no hydras are allowed to replace slots in Normal games from this day onward (regardless of whether the original slot was held by a solo player or a hydra).
This ban also covers the games currently in sign-ups. If you signed up for a Normal game as a hydra, my apologies, but you will either need to join a different game or join the same game as individual players.
As per quadz08's decision, hydras are also no longer allowed in Normal games run in the Micro queue.
Thank you everyone for your time and your input in previous iterations of this issue.
No matter how high the stakes, sooner or later you're just gonna have to go with your gut.
And maybe, just maybe, that'll take you right where you were supposed to be.
