I've played maybe 10 minutes of Cave Story what feels like 10 years ago, so I can't exactly claim familiarity with the theme.

Play it again, CTD! Even if you play it on easy, the story is so much fun. It's not a very long game either. It won't take you longer than 5 hours.

This. If anyone is unfamiliar with the theme, the original version of the game is still free (here) and can be beaten in just a few hours. If you start playing it now, you'll probably be done by the time this game begins.

I learned recently that the machine gun at lvl3+ can propel you upwards. Cool.
