I think it's useful to get to know champions though. I don't want to detriment anyone else's games until I actually understand what I'm doing. Like when champion pick is going on I have to slowly look at what everyone else has picked so far and determine what is needed because I'm not familiar with the champions in the slightest.
And yeah I see the reduced returns thing, but you have to play a certain amount of minutes which is quite a few games for me, and the Intro AI benefits don't reduce until you reach level 10.There will be no kisses tonight

If you don't die to bots much, you'll probably be able to win your first PvP matches unless you get matched up with a smurf (in which case, just survive and hope your team's smurf carries harder).- Iecerint

I think ARAM is a good tool for learning a lot of champs. It forces you to play champions you aren't comfortable with, which is the easiest way to learn when they're vulnerable and so on. It's also a decent transition to PvP because no one cares if you do poorly in ARAM. Not sure what level that unlocks.
In general it's better to know a champion well than to pick champions specifically to "counter" your opponent.

Unless you do really well it's going to match you by level initially. Which means by playing bot games now you are going to likely be paired vs people with more experience against other players when you do jump in. That will be more detrimental than a lack of character knowledge.Taking a break from the site.- zoraster

I too was scared as shit to play vs other humans. Know what I did? Made scummers play with me. Win or lose, at least the people on your own team know you're new and have patience, and won't yell you into the ground.Have retired for good; Life is too busy to have time or energy for mafia. Chevre, try building like this on Ashe:
Infinity Edge -> Berserker's Greaves -> Statikk Shiv/Phantom Dancer -> Last Whisper -> Bloodthirster/Essence Reaver -> Guardian's Angel.
or:
Essence Reaver ->Berserker's Greaves -> Statikk Shiv/Phantom Dancer -> Infinity Edge -> Guardian's Angel.
Same overall damage, but these are the technically correct build paths."Animorpherv1's posts are so powerful that prolonged exposure may cause vertigo, nausea, acute tinnitus, and in rare cases, death." - vonflare

I just have so much trouble with the items part. It's just kind of there when I die or recall and I basically buy whatever I can afford because I feel like I can't waste time. I mean I now know that Guardian Angel was a horrid choice but I recognized it from Lux's champion spotlight as a "good thing".There will be no kisses tonight

Also just to save anyone else trouble in the future, I really can only handle one or so games at a time right now so if you try to contact me while I'm mid-game to start something I'm probably going to deny.Last edited by Chevre on Mon Sep 29, 2014 5:04 pm, edited 1 time in total.There will be no kisses tonight

GA's never really a bad choice, but you usually build 3-4 items that let you delete opponents first.- Iecerint

In general, if you're playing an ADC like Ashe, it's helpful if your first item is a damage ("attack damage" or "AD") item. This is because damage makes last-hitting much easier and your abilities tend to scale with AD rather than attack speed ("AS").
You might also want to invest in a lifesteal item early if you're not comfortable with being able to "win lane" (i.e., last-hit more minions than your opponent and/or kill them a few times). This is because it heals you a little when you shoot things, which lets you hang around even if you take some damage.
And totally take the old tutorial lady's advice about having difficulties -- don't be discouraged!- Chevre

I want to apologize for being so whiny. Having thought silently about it for a few minutes (lol), I realized that I was just posting here to garner pity and maybe even a little hope that someone would be stereotypically LoL mean and poke fun at my screenshot. I know, pretty terrible.
But I just think LoL is one of those things I want to be naturally good at but I'm not, and those sorts of things--like knitting--frustrate me and get me really angry and down. I guess I just feel that if I can barely handle the bots labeled "beginner", how will I ever stand a chance against real people, given all the variables? It also doesn't help that I still feel like I'm having fun, but I"m just not doing a good job gamewise.
Anyway I don't know if this makes a difference but most of the time I was bottom-laning against Lux and Miss Fortune? Which felt mostly impossible because while I love playing as Lux all the things I love about her are what make her terrible to play against, and Miss Fortune seems just as deadly. Also I played as Ashe, whose abilities I still don't really get. Like, the only truly damaging abilities are Q and W, W is great but Q is passive and weird, R is supposed to be good but I never feel like it does much damage, and E is basically some sort of scouting shot and a passive gold multiplier? I just don't know. And I guess the x/x/x stats aren't everything, but they seemed so bad this time around that it affected me. :/
Ugh. I guess this sounds no less whiny and super more diatribe-y. Sorry. :/There will be no kisses tonight

ADCs or Attack Damage Carries generally rely on their Autoattacks to deal damage. Their other abilities are often supplementary and complementary to that goal. So don't get too hung up on abilities with Ashe. You want to deal most of your damage with your auto attack.
R isn't good because it does damage. It's good because you can use it to lock up one or more enemies who are trying to run away or so that they can't position themselves. It's also good because it's a "global" ability (i.e. it travels the entire map)..- FakeGod

Don't feel discouraged! You will definitely get better. With some practice, beginner bots will feel trivial, and then intermediate bots will feel trivial. You will definitely feel the progression.
If you're playing an ADC ("attack damage carry") like Ashe, your autoattack (i.e., your right-click attack) is a significant portion of your damage. You build items that increase your AD, which increases the power of your autoattack. You are totally correct that Ashe probably felt weak (and WAS weak). This is because ADCs, more than probably any other role, require items to be powerful. This is part of why they are usually paired with a support early on in the game -- they need the protection both early on and throughout the game, but if you can farm well and get some kills with help from your support, you become capable of 1v5ing (well, maybe 2v5ing, as you still need some protection!) the enemy team.
If you want to feel strong as a new player (meaning, as a player who's not great at last-hitting and getting gold as a result), I suggest you check out some support champions. Support champions are designed to be pretty powerful even without any gold, so you can come closer to their potential even without farming well.
With Lux, a lot of her power is in her passive. If you hit an enemy with your Q or E, they have a debuff that you can "detonate" by using either an autoattack or your ultimate. A really satisfying combo with her is to snare an enemy with Q and then ult them to deal tons of damage. If you're playing against her, the object is probably to dodge her skillshots and attack her when her cooldowns are up.
If you're playing as Ashe against bots, a good strategy is to right-click and W the enemy champions and ONLY attack minions if you're last-hitting them for the gold. This is a good strategy in general, really.- Saki
