I tried Lissandra and Ryze tonight. Both I was initially sort of uncomfortable with their abilities but I think I got the hang of them (I don't really know how to use Ryze's ultimate but it all worked out).

I also tried to be wiser in my item purchaisng, but I don't know if it was successful.

Anyway I'm level 6 now so if I want to try a variet of champions should I ARAM?

As someone who is learning, avoid ARAM games.

First up the botting situation (people running scripts to run their champs rather then playing) is extremely prevelant in ARAM, not only that but your generally better just picking each and every champ you own/is free week individually cause you can get somewhat of a feel for them before you go into game.

aram is just good for mechanics and learning what champions CAN do. its quick its fun. but yea at lower levels bots run rampant.

Who else is a tanky top with ez waveclear that isn't Leona or Maokai

Shyvana, lee sin (e + hydra tends to instantly clear waves), rumble, vlad, alistar to an extent (q+passive), renekton (especially with hydra)

None of these champions have Leona/Maokai/Cho'Gath levels of "fuck you I'm going to kill all the minions while facetanking all of your damage"

Kinda like what the AP mids do

If you want to just facetank damage, you probably shouldn't play any champion that doesn't have infinite built in sustain and doesn't care about getting ahead in lane. A la maokai and cho'gath.

Literally the only two champions that have this.

Holy fuck i just played swain and my god what is that power.

The amount of times i zhonya's in the middle of a teamfight with like 200 health, and got back to almost full was so fucked up.

He's really really really strong if you can get even just one level ahead of the enemy. WEQignite will kill anything and you are unkillable unless they spend everything on you and ignite you, in which case you've done your job, anyway.

However, because he requires aggressive positioning to do his job, he's really really useless if you don't get that lead somehow, so I only pick him into a favorable match-up.

(Pull range is same as q/aa, so you go in to harass and just get fucked)

Regarding nice Swain match-ups, he's favored in lane against basically every melee champion in the game -- especially ones with no gap-closer (so they can't dash out of your W) or who rely on a MS boost to engage (because you can counter this with your Q and laugh as they take terrible damage). All you have to do is E+aa them at level 1 and you have won the lane unless they manage to rush level 2 and flash-combo-ignite and you don't catch it or whatever.

Swain is countered by gap-close mobility (because it makes it harder to land W until you notice how they like to use their gap-close) and by strong waveclear pre-6. His waveclear is low without his ult, and his tower-farming is really uncomfortable, and he will run out of mana quickly if he can't consistently last-hit (i.e., his passive refunds mana for it). Last-hitting is also disproportionately difficult with Swain I think, because his DoTs on QE aren't great for securing last-hits, and his W has a delay before the damage is applied, so it can be hard to time correctly. Even his ult damage is in small bursts early on, so it's easy to miss minions if you're not careful.

A meta-disadvantage to Swain top is that Swain really likes ignite because his E amplifies the ignite true damage.

Viktor; Irelia (I don't see this, I've beaten every Irelia I've played vs. as Ryze). Darius vs. Ryze is a skill matchup.

I can try wu then. I don't see ryze very often but when I do, he dominates the game. The burst is unreal and he is abnormally tanky.
