I was playing GP only for a while because of Factions which I don't play anymore.
It's infuriating to play as GP because he totally sucks compared to current tops.
He used to be ok when HOG was still around but the game has just passed him by.

That said, against bad people like the kind of lore "enthusiasts" who populate factions games, you can really stomp some out with old critplank, I retired 6-0 in factions.

I just beat a GP in lane with yorick. He went pure AD though so it wasn't very hard to kite and poke him down quicker then he could poke me.

As a note it is possible to max his oranges and still be relevant by going into a lichbane and playing as an AP champion (the unexpected painful ults are hilarious.).

Denied a Renekton so hard there was a 100cs difference at 20.
I sat top the entire game (even when our team was pushing mid inhib) freezing lane just outside my turret.
Renek was so confused. He was all like..."

Riot removed the item, made new stuff for supports, and said, "naw, GP doesn't need a replacement for this."

They removed HoG, too, and I think that's more relevant to GP than Philo.

Philo / Avarice Blade > HoG on gold GP

Mana/HP regen on Philo / slight damage boost on Avarice was much much better

hell, back then every top laner bought a philo stone before anything

Philo was much more important than HoG on GP because:

1) Cheap mana regen that didn't ruin your scaling, which you direly need on GP (nowadays you either have to rush Tear or be OOM all the time)

2) Shurelia's was core.

all the gold items used to be stackable

Not when my jungler is so bad that he doesn't know to either come top and help or go dragon for the free gold, and keeps farming. Literally. EVERY. TIME.
