So you're basing this "viability" off of Sokara into..... Volibear?
Any champ just isn't viable as a non-support if one of their abilities doesn't get used in solo lane. To even get higher sustain off the Q, you don't level the Q, you level the W. So you either lose out on damage or you lose out on sustain, which as a support isn't a problem. Your ult isn't doing much in a solo lane either - 0 power spike.Last edited by Maestro on Fri Oct 17, 2014 6:51 pm, edited 1 time in total.- Cabd

It's more the fact that not only can she stop it, she can ult and heal everyone up while she isn't even there (unless dead)
I have seen it mid against a kat like twice, and it worked decently (zone control is basically new raka, zone control against melee works amazingly.)
In the end raka is a decent counter to kat in more then one way (oh you were gonna use your free flash cause of the gank, lolsilence) but raka kinda lacks the damages that are had by most mid laners.Saved by my own stupidity \o/

Damn... demoted again thanks to a terrible riven/ jungle malz/ jinx-morg bot lane. Seriously... the infinite cc bot was impossible to deal with. We had to turtle all game but no other lane was going to get fed. No idea how to win that one. Malz turned out to be ok though... just didn't gank bot once which was pushed.
Oh well... got to power my way back into silver 2 again. If I can, MMR losing streaks are so hard to break.Looking for love in Alderaan places.- Chevre

Thanks for the help everyone! It all just feels really complex right now and I'm not sure how much of it actually soaked in. :/
How do you guys not have trouble with items? As someone just starting out it feels like there are so many to choose from and in a RTS it makes me very frantic and panicky when I'm trying to choose the right one, which explains my terrible decisions tonight. :/
EDIT: also I apologize for not really giving any feedback. I think it was because most of the time I felt dumbstruck and couldn't really say much more than "OK" as I tried to do whatever I was told :/There will be no kisses tonight

You end up learning what items are to do what later on, it's a matter of learning over time and letting it all soak in, don't expect to pick it up all at once, but you will get there.
Everyone (with maybe the exception of dota players) starting out LoL has a start where they have no real idea what they are actually doing.Saved by my own stupidity \o/

I think in my case the biggest early "jump" in my self-perceived competence was when I read a few (mostly outdated) guides on what items various champions built. I switched from the Recommended items, which are often kinda misleading, and onto the types of items I saw in guides. I also asked AP a lot of questions about what 6 items I should go for on Sona, who was free the first week I played the game and whom I kinda fell in love with.
One way to keep them all straight is to recognize that certain items are typically built-together (for example, Rylai's and Liandry's are built together frequently because Rylai's makes Liandry's stronger; you'll see what I mean if you read what the items do). So you can end up remembering a handful of item sets instead of remembering every item individually. You can also codify this if you want by making Item Sets -- the option is one of the buttons on your profile by Runes and Masteries. You can organize them ahead of time in a way that makes sense to you and maybe make one for each of the champions you play the most. I used these when I started because I found them kinda fun, but I just type in the item names manually know because I know them all.
I basically never play melee champs if I can at all avoid it because I am a coward, so I'm not very good at offering advice on the bruiser-y champions that you picked today (e.g., Sion and Vi). My level of critical thinking for those types of champions' items is kinda like "well, maybe hydra or cleaver? idk?" XD - Iecerint
