Why is he not played support?

too easy to gank, wont win an all-in, has a hard time preventing an all in, doesnt do anything better than other supports, his out-of-lane phase is a lot worse than every support i think

Don't forget the super high mana costs and the lack of non-ult hard cc!

So, I tried it in Team Builder against Annie/Sivir with a Graves ADC. It felt fine, really, considering I'd never played him against humans before, and this felt like a bad match-up because Sivir could block lots of Urgot/Graves abilities and Annie could stun Urgot during his ult channel. We won lane, largely because Annie was pretty mediocre, but the solo lanes had trouble.

Spellthief, start E (procs 3 times on DoT ala Morgana W and lacks minion block issues), then QQ and just do your standard EQQQQ thing. E landing means you can zone them away from the minion wave for 5 seconds or take off half their health. Build Tear into Sightstone into whatever. I didn't have any mana issues after Tear, and prior to that it wasn't any worse than playing as, say, Sona. I probably could've self-consciously spammed Q better to stack Tear faster if I'd been more comfortable with him.

I don't think ganks are really disproportionately bad at all? You just press R to escape (or to put them under your turret) and maybe use an autoattack to slow if necessary. It's basically the same as Sona, except that you don't have to aim R or prepare an E-powerchord (advantages), but they can hard CC you out of the R depending upon who the support is and you don't have an ms boost (disadvantages).

The obvious difference re: other supports is that he does physical damage and every other support doesn't, so relatively useful if you end up supporting on team without much physical damage. It certainly feels better than the time I tried to figure out Ashe support, which is the closest AD support competitor I can think of. The armor shred on E also synergizes nicely with an AD lane partner, and it's easier to apply than Taric's W (best analogue on a support champion I can think of). In team fights you can peel with ult/slow/passive.

Graves felt like a really good partner (albeit maybe not into Sivir) because he could easily follow-up on armor shred + exhaust to trade really favorably every time EQ landed.

All-ins I think would be a legit issue if you're caught (some support urgot guides I've seen mention Leona as being really problematic), but I don't think that separates him from other poke supports.

playing first game of promo now. Going to go for my recent success jungle Volibear.

Ugh, we were doing so well, and then our Aatrox had a technical issue or something, he was stuck in base for 15 minutes or so spamming nonsense characters in chat. Not sure if troll or bugged

hmm thresh annie morgana leona nami karma

i think that those are all the champions that would dumpster urgot assuming the ad isn vayne and they're against caitlyn but even then probably would win.

ok ur up against thresh. pretend you both have graves as your adc... you're clearly going to lose the level 2 push (nvm u can only do the small golem as well) and once that happens you'll be zoned off the wave forever by a good thresh/graves. Whats ur plan against this

Morgana would be pretty easy I think. Nami might be OK. The others sound awful.

Okay so:

Support: Nami, Morg, Thresh, Soraka
Jungle: Amumu, J4, Warwick
Mid: Morg I guess, Kassidin (rip riftcrawl)
Top: Mundo, Sion, J4
ADC: Jinx, Corki, Trist

My list of champs I feel comfy enough to ranked with. I need to add some melee to my support and mid pool for sure. And maybe a mage to my top. Recs? Also want to try and learn Cho. Anyone here decent enough at him to take a stab at a mini how to? And for AD midlaners, is zed just far and away the best or are there other options?

If I had to suggest one champ per position...

Top: Renekton - Renekton is SO GOOD in lane. He very well may be the best melee laner is league of legends, honestly. You can obliterate virtually every top laner in existance with his kit as it is. On top of that, he can be built AD (I would only recommend this if ahead) and all of a sudden he's impossible to deal with as he heals for insane amounts and can one-shot practically everything. Tank renekton is a solid teamfighter and initiator, too!

Jungle: VI - Vi is essentially an easier (and less AOE) version of J4. Guaranteed engages coupled with a tri-force means you can practically solo a carry. She's also a great duelist.

Mid: Mordekaiser - Morde right now is in an AMAZING position. Due to the popularity of assassins in solo queue, and the buffs he recently got, he can build AP and wreck his laner. He also scales fantastically well and his ult can turn teamfights. Ult the enemy adc? 2 adcs. Ult the enemy ap? More damage for mordo. Tank? More health and something to tank towers amazingly with. He's one of the champions that struggles the hardest against disengage teams, however.

If you're looking for AD mids, Zed is great, but Talon is very underrated right now. I also really like Graves mid, as I've only lost once vs. standard mids with it. I also don't think that AD mids are really needed and are more luxury, however. It's totally fine to go triple AP and force the enemy team to rush all the MR so your adc can shred.

ADC: Graves - Graves wins a large majority of lanes (does well against EVERY ADC early save for Caitlyn, which can be worked around), his early and midgame are fantastic as well.

Support: Leona - Mostly because I noticed your lack of hard-engage supports (Thresh can do this, but Leona engages much better). Her presence is game is absurd and her passive is hidden OP. She's also extremely tanky, which means that not only are you on their squshies, but your team will struggle to kill you, giving your team a free teamfight.

There's no reason not to use ahri or ori mid. Neither are super difficult, and both are always S or A tier

Also don't do ADC mid - your team will have no idea how to play with it. I'd also suggest not playing Corki - Graves is a lot easier to learn on
