I think you can look at the other roles in this game and make the same argument about how they can be used to mislead the town:

Cabd can fuck with lurker votes.
Ceph can swap two people in the VC.
I can mess with the points.
Wisdom can send messages to people containing anything they want.

There's potential, in all of these roles, for there to be misleading/misdirection/fuckery. I don't think the argument that my role, specifically, CAN fuck w/ people is really legitimate without applying the same to these other roles.
