THIS GAME!!!

Best KDA and CS in game, first to fullbuild (I bought 2 Elixirs),
along with 2 solo Dragons + 2 enemy jungler kills at Dragon :)

I upgraded and used Trinket quite a bit for permanent vision (Pink upgrade probably not best but it worked just fine because they sucked at clearing them) and I ended up getting an S+! Best part: it was Ranked, so +30 puntos para mi!

Did they lower the cost of the tier 2 runes? When I first started out the logic was definitely never buy tier 2s under any circumstances.

Edit: ban rate not win rate, my b. Poppy and Kayle are bottom tier in both roles.

ah okay. Yeah definitely have to worry about the bans on those right now.

Yes, they lowered them a ton. They cost 35 IP for the marks, seals and glyphs and 100 for the quints.

I say any amount of IP spent on tier 2 runes is IP wasted.

When I started, I only had 1 rune page. AD for reds, quints, Armor yellows, and MR Blues.

It was expensive. It was also usable and worth it.

In case people don't remember, they SIGNIFICANTLY reduced the cost of tier one and two runes and simplified them for new players fairly recently.

Poppy's fine top as long as you don't first-pick her and get an awful match-up IMO. Kayle's getting a little buff next patch, so maybe that'll help her, but she's definitely not in great shape right now.

It greatly depends on what you think a "waste" is. I think level 2 runes make leveling from 20 to 30 significantly easier and more fun for a very slight cost (and vs. no runes, you may have a better win rate and thus win more IP). And they're still usable after that point if you need to (I only recently bought the rest of my Tier 3 runes on my smurf).

I had enough IP to buy the rune page I mentioned at lv 20.

It carried me from lv 20 to 30 and beyond.

I still use the rune page this day.

I rescind what I said about Tier 2 runes not being cost effective because I didn't know about the 5.1 rune changes. I still feel they aren't viable especially when you are already at a skill deficit.

I think they were actually changed like mid season 4, unless they dropped prices again at the start of 5.1.

Those changes are also what made scaling defensive runes usable in solo lanes.

Kayle is mediocre at all stages of the game after the repeated nerfs to her burst and DPS.

The buff to her melee form is going to improve her jungle clear mainly I think. She might be pretty OK with Sated Devourer. Her clear is super quick.

The normalizing and price dropping of t1 and t2 runes was in january. Patch 5.1. Google it when zoraster's math seemed weirdly low from what the conventional wisdom was 4 or 5 years ago.

Yeah i mean it depends on what you want to get out of it. But the question is whether you can play this game for free and if so how long does it take before the game is really playable. If you just want to play Normals, obviously Tier 2 runes are okay and you only need a few champs to play in draft mode. If you want to play ranked, the question is harder. But I don't think the deficit between someone who has only the minimum expenditure on champs and Tier 2 runes cannot play in Ranked without getting schooled. The difference is probably at most a a division or two, and presumably once you pick up your Tier 3s, you'll move up accordingly.

That said, new players shouldn't play ranked that quickly anyway not because of runes or a lack of champion availability but because they need to get some experience with the meta game so as not to totally annoy their ranked teammates.

Like... obviously my experience with an alternate account isn't indicative of a new player's experience, but I played ranked on that account with almost those conditions (I did spend some RP to buy Sona, Lissandra and Graves). I have three rune pages, but rarely use the third. And I only this week finalized my tier 3 rune conversion.

The argument isn't whether or not the game is free. It is free. The argument is whether a new player has a large advantage spending money over other new players who don't spend money. I think it's a definitive yes. The noob with more champion options and better runes has a competitive advantage over the not spending money noob. But the guy playing for free can close the gap by playing more.
