Ok first off. Cops defense attorneys and prosecutors all engage in a search for truth, but each has their own biases they bring to the table. That is no different than three people in any Mafia game trying to sort an alignment.
The difference is that all facts for the cop and the prosecutor are filtered through the police for the most part.
The defense attorney has the facts according to their client and the police evidence.
All parties are naturally more inclined to believe their sides. We all value evidence that is consistent more with our internal beliefs than what goes against them. I have learned to watch for such indicators in police and highlight them.
