I am frustrated with forum mafia right now and I haven't had a good game since way back at Christmas with Badass Female UPick. I love the concept of mafia because I read crappy Victorian mysteries all the time and I like the puzzle solving aspect, but in the last few months the games I've played have just turned out terribly. This was in no small part because I've had a pretty bad streak of drawing scum and I absolutely hate being scum. Posting becomes a chore and I drag my feet. I'm no good at telling people what they want to hear because I'm already socially awkward and it's not one of my strengths. It doesn't help that I have the charisma and likability of a dried up cat turd. The couple times I did draw town, I become an emotional, bitter wreck and by the end of the game I ended up turning into a heinous bitch that was pissed off at everybody.

So coming into this game, I thought I would have the attitude of just trying to enjoy the game and just letting my reads develop at their own pace. These usually don't roll around for a
while
. I am super slow because I always try to consider all the different interpretations of people's posts and their implications. I only end up sharing about 5% of what I think just because most of it ends up being garbage. (As a side note, this is a large part of the reason why you will see me in hydra games a lot more often than solo games. My hydra partner deals with people and I can take my sweet ass time.)

So, when I saw BNL say "You're not making
content
on page 2, you're scum!" I was immensely annoyed and just immediately went into bitch mode because I thought "It's not going to be one of
those
games again, is it?" I'm not sharing what I'm thinking because I'm not ready yet, but I
am
keeping up and giving this some thought. The old me probably would've ignored BNL and just kept grabassing until she got better reads. But sadly the old me is dead, beaten to a bloody pulp by games of disappointment, mislynches, and angst. Now, getting pushed for bad reasons bugs the shit out of me and drains me. None of this is BNL's fault, but it is how it is.


That was largely irrelevant and probably doesn't make any sense, but I had to vent and get that off my chest now.

I have to go deal with people in RL now. This'll be an adventure. I'll be back this evening.

I'm about 80% certain there is no breaking strategy and the idea behind RC saying what he said was to bait scum into pressuring him to spill the beans now. Dog thingy is mildly pinging me for that reason, in fact.
(Sorry sweetie for wrecking the gambit, but I think it should be pretty obvious now.)

The other 20% thinks it has something to do with the weak bodyguard and having regular bodyguards claim one at a time so the weak one can get off a guaranteed 3 shots without having a bodyguard massacre. This is disrupted by the ascetic traitor, leading to non-definitive "clears," and the possibility of scum gambiting and claiming bodyguard. Then again, setup speculation and strategy isn't my forte so RC should clarify himself but that's what I'm thinking.

Although, I also have had the thought that RC is blowing smoke up our asses. Possibly her plan is deceivingly pro scum.
Because I've thought about it briefly and I can't think of a way to break the game.

And no, I hadn't read much of the game till then except to see who people were voting for to get an idea whether a wagon is starting and which ones are spared.

Alright: here's the strategy.

We are going to wait until page 10 or so when everyone has had a decent amount of discussion and then the Weak Bodyguard will claim.
Following that, we'll popcorn.

If we end up with 4 or more Bodyguard claims we'll have the 2 scummiest protect the Weak Bodyguard.

The weak bodyguard will then systematically target people that we are townreading, either confirming them or if we fucked up a read we get a free scum lynch.

No, he's entirely right.

Unless we royally screw something up as a group, this strategy is virtually guaranteed to win so long as we just don't worry about trying to lynch the traitor.

We get a conftown and a lynch every day if scum shoots for bodyguards, and if they don't they give us investigations forever instead of just for 3 days.

I won't say my thoughts about how scum should counteract this because I don't want to suggest scum strategy, but as far as I can figure out there's no good counterplay to this.

Especially if we popcorn so that the mafia and traitors don't know what the others are doing.

@gamr i don't like the pressure on RC and I think tth has got it sussed.

Om the breaking strategy, we could all post 'if I was weak BG I will protect...' And all choose a different person? It would avoid everyone dying at once. I've seen something similar in an open game but I don't know if it would actually work - it's helpful in less deas body guards more than conf-ing people.

Or I may be crazy. Either or.
