Two people share a password to a user account, and they both post on it, pretending to be "one" player slot.
They may communicate with each other in any means they choose, via PM, Quicktopic, Private Thread, in person, via Skype, on the phone, etc.
Functionally, they are considered one person. However it's really annoying because it's two different voices and two different opinions.
Hydras are pretty stupid. They break the "don't talk about ongoing games" rule. But they are fun. And we allow them because we're not all party poopers.
It's become an integral part of our site culture and I don't foresee that changing barring some pretty unlikely cheating incident.
Hydras are also very useful for multiple people who want to moderate a game together, and don't want to confuse players by having multiple accounts. This is a common use.
Hydras may have more than two heads. This makes it even more chaotic, and the alignment readability and tone/opinion coherence of the slot noticeably disintegrates.
Nobody really likes hydras above three heads.
This has been Hydras with your host zakk, please tune in next week for Wallposts, and Why They Are Bad.
