What do people think of Mafia + Russian Roulette?

Sure. Go pick a setup like that from some of the current setups in the Open Game Discussion thread.

Would anyone be interested in a Mastodon (the band) themed game? What thinking scum would be the band members and Town would be characters from their albums.

Pirate mafia: the mafia are conspiring mutineers, and lynches are done by throwing someone overboard. I can also think of some cool roles that would go along with this :D

Mastermind Mafia (Open Mini)

- 13 Players
  • 7 Vanilla Townie
    1 Town Voteless Governor
    1 Town Spy

    3 Mafia Goons

    1 Mastermind
- While the Mastermind is alive, Mafia meetings are anonymous. They will not know for sure who the others are, but may still talk one with another. Claiming is allowed. The Mastermind is present in these conversations. They will vote on who to target for the nightkill. An anonymous off-site meeting, such as Quicktopic, is created and presided over by the host. A majority of the current scum population, Mafia plus Mastermind, has to agree to the nightkill, else it will not go through. Electing not to perform a nightkill is allowed.
- The Mastermind has a one-time gun that they may use to anonymously kill anyone at any time. If the gun is shot during the day, the votes will be reset, and the deadline moved back two days. If used at night, the gun work instantaneously; Mafia Goons would be removed from the game and the discussion immediately, rather than at the beginning of the next day.
- If the Mafia “win” while the Mastermind is still alive, controlling half or more of the town, the Mastermind instead will win, and the Mafia will lose. The Mafia have to get rid of that jerk before they can get on with their takeover. The Mastermind is not counted in the calculations for a Mafia win; the Mafia themselves must control 50% of the town population.
- The Spy hears everything the Mastermind says during the Mafia meeting.
- One of the Mafia goons starts the game knowing the identity of the Spy.
- Once per game, the Governor may override any lynch, saving that player from being removed from the game. This is considered to be a no-lynch. The Governor may override their own lynch. The Governor remains anonymous during this process. The Governor is voteless.
- The Mastermind starts the game knowing the identity of the Governor.
- All lynches must be done by a majority. Game starts on Night 0, wherein no kill may be made.

Also, I've been thinking of a theme game for when I'm able to. I'm still brainstorming to myself a concept of Back to the Future Mafia for the Theme Park, and that would include Time Travel. My thoughts were that there would not be spoilers given in the dead thread (or there may not be a dead thread), they had the possibility of coming back.

I'm still very much in the early works of the development, but what's the interest level for this?

How would you ensure they can't just access the original thread while they're dead?

I don't understand your question. Can't we all read the original game while we are dead?

Is time travel just reviving, or is there something more to it? Because there ought to be restrictions on the information you can carry with you. It is time travel after all, sufficient mid screwing is an obligation.

More or less just reviving, and it would probably just reviving the most recently dead person. I mean, if Person A dies then Person B dies, we can't go back to a time where Person A is living but Person B isn't.

There was a rather complex/mind-screwy theme game a while back where you could jump to the future as well as the past, and had an "established timeline" of lynches and nightkills (determining who would be alive) that both scum and town could change with some effort, and which would determine what happened after a jump in time. IIRC, the game's mechanics didn't actually work so there wouldn't be much point in copying them directly,
but
you could probably make a fun game off the same basic principle.

Sure. I'll take a look at that. Do you happen to remember the name? I'm looking for a way to simplify the game's mechanics to be both fun and easy to understand.

It wasn't recent, at least. (I wasn't a player, and used to have much more time to read games I'm not involved in than I do nowadays.) I can't even remember if it was Mini or Large.

You might want to try searching on "paradox" or "paradoxes", IIRC they played a major part in the game (or at least, it was set up like they would when actually they wouldn't).

CFJ may be talking about this game, Mini 199: Time Travel Mafia.
Kuroi, I'd be interested in talking game design with you or co-modding.

That was a different game, but it's also interesting. It kind-of reminds me of Achron (in that the game itself doesn't travel in time, but allows you to perform actions proactively or retroactively).

haven't been here for a while but I think a bastard game based around "Monokuma Hunter" in the danganronpa 3 would be very interesting. Basically the game would have 16 people in it, and everyone would have a NG rule, where they cannot do a certain action or say a certain role, or else they'll die instantly. haven't really decided on the town/scum ratio, but there'd probably be no power roles, or otherwise very weak power roles.

That being said it's been a while since I've played a mafia game, so I'd appreciate it if someone is willing to help me plan the game/co-mod it.

16 is not an easy number to fit a near-mountainous game around, although there's probably some way to do it.

Would breaking a restriction be a death or a modkill? If it's a death, townies would do it intentionally if they were about to be lynched in order to save town the mislynch. This means that you'd probably need fairly long deadlines.

Honestly I haven't even thought up of the possibility of NG codes being used as psuedo-lynches lol. breaking a restriction will probably end up being a modkill, which would end up in a interesting situation where the best thing for the town ( using NG codes to get rid of possible lynch targets), isn't the best thing for the individual(where breaking your NG code means you lose).

Fantasy Football Mafia

Players need to join a Yahoo fantasy football league. Day phase 5 days, night phase 2, so it's a weekly cycle. Each week the players with the highest fantasy football scores win 1X PRs.

In order to keep dead players active in the fantasy league, dead players can still win PRs for their faction, or penalties for their faction if their score is too low.

I suppose it would need 8, 10, or 12 players to work with the fantasy league.

Has this been tried before?
