Stahp glared at his *cough* beloved new friend. Despite the gentle pressure he was putting down on Sixty, the little dog was quite firmly braced on all fours to stop its furry belly from sinking down to the cold, smooth metal of the DOCTORVET's table. Sixty's normally-expressive eyes were wide and unmistakably showed an iron will, conveying almost audibly that it

want to be there.

Just then, a somewhat distinguished man walked in through a side door. The puppy's eyes watched the gap between the door and the frame as it narrowed, and its ears drooped slightly when it shut all the way.

"The tests look normal. One happy, healthy puppy. You're all set!"

Stahp wasn't entirely convinced about the "happy" part, but it was enough. Stahp let up a little on the pressure, and within two blinks of an eye the tense dog was on the edge of the table looking down. From the little puppy's perspective, Sixty was sixty Sixties high! The pooch looked over and gave its friend a most exasperated--if helpless--look. Stahp carefully picked Sixty up and laid the puppy on the floor with a jingle of its collar.

Ten minutes of desperate pulling and frustrated paying later, Sixty escaped (albeit leashbound) from the awful, sterile-smelling place. Sixty tried to raise itself up on two legs to try and hop in the trunk of the car, but in the end had to give up and wait for Stahp to help. When they got home, though, Sixty needed no such help - the puppy bounded right past Stahp's hands and ran for the front door. There was no place Sixty wanted to be more than home.

Much to the puppy's relief, this was not an experience soon repeated. It would have to wait an infernally long time for another chance to grind the dog's bones beneath its tires. The natural face made by its headlights and grille seemed to twist imperceptibly into an angry grimace. Sixty let out a small whine as its fur stood on end while Stahp made the thankless walk to the door, but fortunately for the innocent puppy's sanity Sixty didn't look back and see why.

The next day, Sixty was chasing a ball! Its little heart raced as it tried to catch the moving thing. It didn't really matter WHAT it was per se, it was moving and it needed to be stopped and shown who was b--

Sixty's attention immediately broke as it saw something shiny ten yards aside. A butterfly was flitting carelessly through the yard, about three feet above the ground. The puppy immediately forgot all about the ball and ran toward the unsuspecting insect. When it caught up, it slowed down to match the butterfly's pace, padding along at a deliberate prance as it lifted its paws with each step.

On an excited whim, Sixty jumped up and tried to nip the butterfly out of the sky, but didn't bother to remember that its quarry was still moving forward, and bit down on air. Almost without waiting to land, the puppy ran forward and spun around. Then Sixty crouched real low, its tail wagging so hard its whole lower body shook with excitement. When the butterfly came close, Sixty pounced really high! But again, it didn't think to take into account that the butterfly was still moving forward. Sixty tried to turn in the air to catch the insect anyway but only succeeded in falling nose first into the ground.

After checking to see if it was all right from the pugging, Sixty saw that the butterfly was flying away! The puppy gave chase, but couldn't get to it before it flew up and over the fence.

Sixty stared at it for a moment before reaching down and pawing at its muzzle for a while. Then it tried to remember what it was doing...
