pie was in on it, everyone was in on it

some of the things being said were so goddamn absurd i thought it was obvious we were doing a "take something obviously farcical too seriously" thing

people's usernames were changed to pink and puke green and even white at different times
admins were changing each other's permissions

I hate April fools day, and it sucks even more on the internet because it's longer than just the day itself because of time zones.

I guess we just have differing philosophies about April Fool's. Pretty much anyone and everyone knows what April 1st means, so it's nigh-impossible to fool anyone, especially the clever sort this site attracts.

You're trying to argue both "April Fool's is meant to fool you!" and "This April Fool's joke was

I think the way to do anything on a medium as impersonal as an Internet forum is to make it dopey and low-impact. Like, changing everyone's avatars to kittens would be an obvious joke but it's also aggressively harmless. Compare "wow, you got a Scottish Fold? TEAM ANGORAS 4 LYFE" vs. "Wow Reck sure doesn't seem to like MattP anymore. The mods at are odds with one another. Hm"

Like one more thing is that this joke would be incredibly complex to understand if you just started visiting this site. I get that we are a deep community but it required an understanding of Reck's past behavior, moderator distinctions, recent rule discussions, etc.

I thought I was done with this thread but this shows that you really missed the reason behind upset feelings. It's not whether it was funny or not. I'd wager that every april fools joke has been unfunny to most people, we haven't had strong ones historically. So why is there more negative feedback for this one? I can't know for sure, but I can give a theory, you made people the didn't get that is was a lie angry. Haha? Where is the joke? Most april fools attempts will go in the other direction "Here is this good thing, oh wait trololol". I think there is a reason for that.

Of course, you ignore that because you don't really have a proper argument or defence and just want to make another jab at chamber, and it doesn't fit your narrative that maybe his issue is exactly what he says it is rather than him just having another go at the moderation.

I don't think that's true. I can think of instances where I've explicitly defended choices that the staff has made. I do think I'm more often critical than supportive, but a good deal of that is likely just that good decisions can more easily go unnoticed.

With that said I'm not really interested in arguing that point. I don't even think this issue is all that important as I've said before, and when I thought this was it, I was just going to let it go. Zoraster's post that I responded to seemed to imply that he missed the issues I saw with it though, so I pointed them out in hopes of having this not be repeated. I don't think you guys went into this with malice. I don't even think it was particularly incompetent. It could even be argued that the april fools joke I pulled when I was red is similar in nature, and from the inside I didn't see it's flaws. But I would like for it to not happen again.
