End of Day 2

You're typing up some really bad flavour for the Mafia game you're modding when your IM icon flashes. You're currently waiting for your opponent to reply to UNDERDOG, a nice tile-clearing word that earnt you a good sum of points, so it's gonna be one of your friends asking for assistance or somesuch. Whatever, you're on a roll with this flavour (meta is, apparently, your forte) and you decide it can wait. When you open the client you see a lot of messages have been posted in your absence. IceGuy has angrily explaining that playing sAID is a much worse idea than playing sAD because it opens up the triple word score for his opponent, regardless of the fact sAID earns more points.

However, nobody else is buying it. Angrily accusing him of being a traitor for not wanting to play the higher-scoring word, everyone is turning against IceGuy and the exchanges are getting very heated, very quickly.

(8:12 PM) IceGuy: funk you guys

It's the last straw. Horrified, you read on to discover that IceGuy has been removed from the group convo and forced to forfeit his game. He's filled a whole tab of apologetic PMs to you, and is clearly just a loyal player who was just trying to do what was best for the cause. Was his expulsion well-intentioned? Or were there traitors fanning the flames? Only time will tell. Your opponent has made their move, so it's time to stop dwelling on IceGuy and return to your game.

You're studying the game board and your rack of tiles when your device vibrates with the strains of an incoming call. It's from one of your friends, who's been playing Words with Friends with you. You briefly wonder why they're not communicating by IM, and then you pick up the phone.

DCLXVI interrupts you in the middle of your greeting. "They've cut me off."

"What?" You quickly open your IM window. Sure enough, DCLXVI's disappeared off the list of people in the room. You must have been too wrapped up in your game to notice.

"I don't know how, man, but they've cut my connection. I know it was someone playing with or against us, because my homepage has been replaced with a list of insulting words I've been playing in my game."

You groan. "Oh crap. There aren't any unsecured Wi-Fi networks around for you to use or anything?"

"No, man, I'm pretty sure it's a problem with the hardware. The antenna must be bust because I can usually get into my neighbour's network."

"And you don't have any other way to get onto the internet?"

"Well, sure, but I can't play Words with Friends on my laptop. It's only a smartphone app."

"Right."

You scratch your head.

"Well, sorry to hear it. There's not much you can do about it, I guess, so take a rest."

"Sure. Thanks."

"It's a shame you're gonna time out. You were doing pretty well."

"Yeah," DCLXVI murmurs into the phone. "Yeah."

Then he hangs up.

So a quick review of DCL’s reads at the end of yesterday had the following scum pool – Vijay / Ice (know is wrong) / Robo with Voided mentioned just on the outside off scummy.

I’m going to start my re-reading in that group of 3.

As mentioned previously I believe his early focus on “let’s do some draft via lining up players 1 – X to do picks” plan was not Pro-Town. Looking at his ISO his first 10 or so posts are focused on the mechanics of pick as opposed to finding scum. In Post 143 he admits his early Hoopla vote is pure sheeping.

Not sure if Post 430 is coming from a scum perspective. On the scum side his reasoning for the Arugula vote is terrible (bad meta). On the Town side I’m not sure I can see scum posting this – “Gay, everybody is voting him now, I thought I could actually contribute something.”. He’s basically copping completely to his lack of content while hopping on a mislynch.

Hoopla and Arugula were the only votes he made Day 1.

He beings Day 2 with a DCL vote and it stays there the entire day. Never responds to DCL’s questions regarding why it is still on him as deadline approached.

This catch-up never came. He only posted once more on the 21st to say “busy, let me look at Iceguy later”.

Given Iceguy was Town my belief is scum have been coasting along getting little attention. Vijay has cast 3 votes all game long, seemed determined to not commit to a wagon at the end of Day 2, and really hasn’t done any scum-hunting himself (all his wagons are either weak meta reads or sheeping by his own admission). I can certainly see that as scum behavior given Town has been on the receiving end of all the strong suspicion so far this game.

Robo -

His immediate sheeping of LLD’s “Flip and collect” policy seems like appeasement to me. If Robo is scum he’s not scum with LLD.

Votes Vijay with first non-RVS vote for sheeping onto Hoopla wagon.

Explicitly calls Argugula dumb not scum for a post Arugula made in Post 96. Does some buddying to LLD via attacking Voided in same post.

Finally changes vote from Vijay to Whisper in Post 304. Noteworthy in that he votes Whisper for basically saying “Making a case on me is a waste of time” while he’s had multiple post questioning / criticisng Arugula yet didn’t move his vote.

Post 378 where he apologizes for said post dings my scumdar. At that point he has exactly zero votes and no-one seems to be criticizing his posting in the 2 pages leading up to that as far as I can see. I’m getting ‘self-concious scum’ undertones in this apology.

Votes for Whisper at Post 385 saying Arugula is obviously more scummy. As has been mentioned before – this does not jibe with 382 (just prior) where he lists Whisper as Scum and Arugula as Null-scum. He later justifies that ‘Arugula wagon is better’ when questioned by Voided at Post 400. Strong scum vibes from this post.

Post 527 – Very defensive and scummy reaction to being questioned about why Arugula was scum.

His explanation for why Voided versus Ice was Town versus Town at Post 712 shows Cognitive Dissonance. He attacked DCL for not having good reasons for a TvT read but his explanation is simply “the qualities of their argument indicate them to be Town”. That’s generic fluff … yet DCL was scum for not having concrete reasoning behind his call.

Case on me at Post 874 is further crap. I’m suddenly null-scum and he can ‘see the reasons why ‘we’ want his lynched’. He again actually doesn’t elucidate any such reasons.

Post 951 and Post 952 – Possibly indicate scum lurking out the end of Day 2 (where all significant wagons were on Town).

He gets prodded by Quil at 11:47am and just happens to pick it up 12 minutes later. 9 minutes later he grabs a quote to look active. No comment on anything other than me calling him scum in 930.

I'm seeing some strong scum-motivated posts in his ISO, even without the Iceguy links I thought were there.

Another shot of ultra-cautiousness I missed the first time. Same thing Voided did.

However, the random thing threw me. Being cautious for a particular letter is one thing. Cautiousness for a random letter?

And his votes do look bad, but betting his ISO is full of bad.

Want to look over vote counts again and DCL iso.

Still thinking Voided & Robo at this point.

Still think AVox and Robo are possible. I'm more inclined to think vijay is, too, now.

The thing I just can't wrap my mind around right now is: Why DCL? Why not you, or me, or Whisper? Maybe I shouldn't get too wrapped up in NK WIFOM, but I just can't comprehend why they'd kill him.
