ah elementary!
it was a simple strategy really. I'm a friendly neighbour, but I figured there was a good chance of me being NKed last night as nobody really suspected me, and I'd hammered 1 scum and pushed an elim on another. And obviously a friendly neighbour has increased utility the longer the game goes and we had no other claimed PRs so I wanted to try and survive last night. I also wasn't sure about in the beginning - I defended him from Ydrasse on Day 3 because I'd successfully targetted him the previous night (he confirmed the message he received) he knew I was town, and I had a vague idea I could use that to test his alignment (because if he tried to go for me, I'd know he was scum), but more importantly if he was town, he could confirm me. But on Day 4 I still hadn't really sorted him, so I decided to go with a claim which would direct the NK to him (by 100% confirming him town) unless he was scum himself. He'd already confirmed the message, but not been too obvious about what it said (although he did crumb it discretely). I also knew he wouldn't deny it, because he knows I'm conftown (and if he's scum, doing so would blow his cover).
Incidentally, the fact I'm a friendly neighbour is why I was so keen for Samantha to reveal whether she had an actual result on me - because when she crumbed I was conftown it just meant I was gonna NKed and that's a waste of a potentially useful PR. And why I got cross with you for drawing attention to her crumb of an inno on me (because I knew it would get me killed). Whether it ultimately serves any value, it has to be the most satisfying fakeclaim I've ever pulled off as town because it works on so many levels.
Anyway, so I figured inthebeginning would probably be NKed last night, unless inthebeginning was scum. I thought the most likely scenario was that you are scum, would kill inthebeginning, and try to get Funeral to elim me - so I targetted Funeral last night.
There was no real risk to running the gambit yesterday. If I died, I'd have flipped Friendly Neighbour, and you'd have known it was false and I didn't have a clear on ITB. As I didn't die, I can claim honestly today and remove the risk of inthebeginning winning if he is the scummiest player. And for bonus points I had a chance of hitting the other player in ExLo, meaning we could have a 3 player ExLo with me conftown to both players which is a good position to be in. I suppose the only downside is fakeclaiming inherently reduces your credibility, but really it's the only way to play that role.
Today sort of plays itself. If ITB is town, he will vote you immediately because he knows I'm town, and you will then have to vote for him because I won't hammer you (hence proving to you I'm town). And then I'll have the casting vote.
If ITB doesn't immediately vote for you, then from my perspective, he is confscum, and I'll vote him. You will then get the casting vote and have to weigh up all the evidence. But I think that's less likely as ITB already crumbed that he got the message confirming I'm town, so it's unlikely you'd buy it.
Therefore we probably end up in scenario 1 regardless of ITB's alignment.
