Sheeeit, that was fun! I've been following along since I got frakkin daykilled (no hard feelings, grim). So many twists and turns. Good game all! I'm so proud that I had Rishi's number from early on - it's probably the first time I've really had a good read on scum that early in a game. (of course, I was also dead wrong about timeater/ flask on day 1 - gotta take the good with the bad)
It was a pleasure to play with so many good townies - I learned a lot in this game.
So scum was provided with fake claims by the mod? Is that common on MS? First time I've encountered it.
All of this, and BSG to boot. The game ends just in time for the final season!

Thanks.Kison wrote:Incog, speaking of the whole thing regarding me forgetting my role, I should mention that you were right to scrutinize me for voting Rishi. As town I probably would have been more cautious, so props for spotting it.
I mean, I'm sure you did think the fake-claim through initially when you came into the thread, but I think it's something that's easy to let slip when you know youractualrole isn't the one you're claiming it is.
I'm really glad I replaced into this game. I was initially signed up for this game as just myself, but I became ridiculously busy when the game first started so I had to pull out. I promised destructor that I would replace in when he needed a replacement. I was still busy upon replacing in, but I figured grabbing Patrick and coming in as a double-head might make the load a bit easier and it did. It was really nice bouncing ideas off of each other and diving into each other's thought processes so that was pretty cool. I dunno if I'd double-head again though; I found myself becoming a bit lazier than I might have been as a single-head at some points thinking "ah, Patrick will post anyway". Haha. It was a nice experience anyway.
And it was a pleasure being a part of such a good group of townies. I think the majority of us helped contributed to this win as a team so good game to you all.[ooc][color=black]patrickgower2006 (8:12:03 PM): all beer tastes same to me

To be fair, you all did NOT have a perfect town performance. Granted, my behavior wasn't the greatest, but you had enough of a lock on the game so you could have left me alive and continued the camn/Kison thing ad inifinitum, and OFFICIALLY never lynched a townie. Otherwise though, town did well. I say that seperate from myself since I really didn't do much. I could see the town getting a scummy for this, at least the PRs."Never have I seen anybody glorify their own lynch."

Yay! Good job everyone!
I was probably was least useful town for my inactiveness, though. Blargh, after my newbie game is over, I'm probably going to take a break from mafia until summer.
I have to echo what fark and incognito said, it was really fun playing with such good players, who kept it interesting and, um, fun.
Oh, and I love you too Grimmy. <3 (is it okay with you to post the QT?)
P.S. Watch there be a day 7...- Incognito

"I saw him!" Kison screamed with all his might, his voice full of terror, a shaking finger pointed wickedly at Elmo, "It was him I painted! Him I saw, with a dagger borne below! Elmo isdangerous!"
Everyone stood, dumbstruck. Except for Elmo, who simply pointed his finger right back at Kison.
"No! It'syouthat's dangerous! I remember now. I remember why I'm here. I'm here with the Colonial Fleet, with Sharon and Karl Agathon, Samuel Anders and Gaius Baltar. Kara Thrace never came on this mission with us!"
It suddenly became clear to everyone. As if by magic, they could all see Kison for who he was. The blonde of Kison's hair receded to a dry crispy grey, her face ageing in seconds. Before them, they no longer saw Kara Thrace of the Colonial Fleet, but Father Cavil, the Cylon.
"You!" Flask of Pestilence said, pointing his own finger now, "You tried to kill us! You, along with the rest of the ones, fours and fives! That's whatwewere doing here - we were fighting back with the help of the humans!"
Kison stood, frozen in place. He was caught and he knew God couldn't save him now.
"Alright, so you caught me. Fine. Well done, congratulations, good job. I surrender. You don't need to kill me, right? I mean, what would be the point?"
At that moment, the Basestar once again sprung to life and the Hybrid spoke.
"Hand in hand, the ends are met. We face alike. Note entity presence. Charging FTL. Yonder, man and man find all in time after kin and kin. The one who seeks to harm. Only one of one. The outcome, singular. Harm is as told in the scrolls, in the name of God and Gods. We are hand in hand. FTL ready. JUMP!"
.::][:::::][:::::][:::::][:::::][:::::][:::::][:::::][::.
In a nearby star system...
"Jump complete," Lieutenant Felix Gaeta of the Battlestar Galactica reported to everyone in the CIC.
The ship's Commander, William Adama looked up, "What are we seeing on DRADIS?"
"Constellations are consistent with our charts and the emergency beacon we detected from our Raptor. It looks like the jump was successful. Environmental sensors are picking up traces of nuclear residue. And...," Gaeta trailed off.
"Lieutenant?"
Gaeta continued, "Sir, DRADIS is picking up a number of Cylon Basestars, but none appear to be active, in fact, there seems to be no energy readings coming from them at all. They're all damaged or destroyed. There's debris floating around everywhere. I think we just jumped into a warfield."
"A warfield? What the frak is going on here?" Colonel Tigh asked, thoroughly confused.
Gaeta suddenly spoke again, "A Basestar has just jumped into range!"
Adama wasted no time. He picked up the intercom and spoke, "All pilots to battle stations. Load our nukes into the missile bays. Aim all artillery at the Basestar and prepare to fire on my command."
"Wait!" Gaeta shouted, "I'm picking up a Colonial signal from the Basestar! It's the Raptor! They're attempted to speak with us."
"Gods, this only gets stranger," Tigh said, still confused.
"Hold your fire," Adama said before turning the intercom off, "Gaeta, put the Raptor through."
A voice came through the speakers, "Galactica? Hello, can you hear us? This is Athena. We are all okay and have some Cylon allies with us and a prisoner. Can you hear us, Galactica?"
There was a cheer from all in the CIC.
Adama spoke, "Athena, this is the Commander. It's good to hear your voice. The Vipers will be ordered to stand down. Get your asses back here so we can get to the bottom of this mess and get back to Pegasus and the Fleet."
"Commander! Thank God! Yes, sir, we'll be over right away!"
"Cylon allies?" Tigh asked, "This should be interesting."
"No doubt," Adama agreed, speaking only loud enough for Tigh to hear, "I'm sure Admiral Cain will have some things to say about it all, but we'll deal with that when we get there. For now, we should celebrate.
It looks like the good guys won today."

Thanks to everyone who played and a big thanks to the replacements! I'm also happy to say that all the players that were replaced communicated good reasons for needing it.
I felt like this game was balanced but swung a HUGE amount against scum, which was funny, because if anything I thought the setup was leaning in scum's favour. Without meaning to say the setup had nothing to do with the outcome, I felt that the Mafia's play in Day 1 could have been better and that their inactivity in particular made them targets. I noted that Incog and Patrick pretty much pegged the entire scum team as soon as they replaced in and injected some life into the game. The town had been fairly inactive up until that point and I think this was why they'd managed to coast by. It seemed like once the town players upped their game in Day 1, the scum team couldn't keep up and the result was both Tar and Mac being pushed to a claim.
I dunno if what I'm saying is making sense, or if I'm thinking too much of my setup, but I feel like scum didn't play it correctly in Day 1 and that this contributed to how the game went. Kison seemed to replace in once most of the damage had been done and had to make do with what he had.
I wouldn't mind hearing feedback from you guys, particularly the Mafia, about how you feel about the game's balance now that you know the whole setup.
About the setup, I was trying a few things out. First was splitting the town into two affiliations. I hoped that it would create a similar climate as we see in the actual series, where there is little trust and much uncertainty about the motives of each race. I think this worked and added some interest to the game too. It was definitely fun for me to read. =)
Another thing was playing with flavour a bit. Just a few points:
- Number 2 and Leoben Conoy were both included.
- The setting of this game was based on a arc of the story that came after Tucker Clellan was already dead. Tucker was also a very minor character in the series.
- Cylon Centurions don't speak. heh
The idea was to dissuade players from relying on flavour too much.
Both of the town's investigative roles had very limited utility. Gaius' result were only useful in terms of probability but he had a good chance of supporting the Centurion's claim if he investigated him. The Centurion could confirm whether a player was a Cylon or catch a player in a fake-claim and only had one shot at it, which he happened to hit scum with. I'm not sure why Rishi decided to claim to be human given that he had a Number 8 safe-claim, but if he'd used it, KoC would only have confirmed his claim.
The Agathon's were un-confirmed masons. There was a dynamic I tried to setup by including sleeper-agaent-Athena, Boomer and the fake claim of Number 8. This could have been useful for scum.
I tried to give scum extra information regarding the setup in their role PMs. They knew that there were both Cylons and humans were in the game and it was alluded to that they may not be aware of each other or even sharing a win condition. The info was limited to keep scum partially in the dark but I felt like I'd given them enough info to have a working idea of the setup that they could use to their advantage.
I chose to list the fake claim as "role names not used in this setup" because they weren't all really "safe" given the presence of the Centurion and Gaius. If they noticed of the wording, they could play accordingly, that is, not take the provision of fake claims as a reason to believe they were infallible in terms of flavour.
There were so many things I wanted to say I didn't really know where to start... or even where to stop. But I'll leave it there for now..::][:::::][:::::][:::::][::.- camn

wow.
I have to say this regarding setup and stuff ...:
A) that was an AMAZING fake-claim from Tar....
But b) as it turned out, it was the worst claim he could possibly have made!
Obviously, claiming an Invesigative role drew my attention.. And thus drew the consistent block. Bad luck that the Doc was a Jailkeeper!!
And Forbiddan... My apologies for lynching you. I thought you were scum up until the end... But i think I was biased by thematic knowledge.

Well, I was rather annoyed when KoC used his one-shot against the only claimed cylon who was lying about which model he was. Seriously, it was like 1 out of 5 shot for a one-time ability. Well-struck, though.
Of course, there were 3 cylons who claimed human, which might have made things more interesting.
My Natalie JK claim came from the fact that it made some sense story-wise, but of course, it didn't work out.
After N1, we were pretty much screwed. 3 out of 4 town roles were on top of us either D1 (KoC -> me) or N1 (Fark -> Rishi, camn -> Tar). Major thanks to Kison for replacing in and trying his best in what turned out to be an impossible situation.
I definitely think there was bad scum play D1, and I doubt we would have won either way, but the pretty much flawless victory was definitely a lucky outcome. (<- Not sour grapes :} )

Thanks, destructor, I had a blast.
I have to agree that Tar's fake claim was great, but ultimately I think he made a mistake with the whole voting pattern thing. While it did make his claim more believable, in my eyes, it also required him to pretty much fake claim from the start, before he had even garnered any suspicion.
Kison, thanks for replacing into that difficult situation and seeing it through. Also, thanks again for my xmas avatar.
As for game balance, I'll leave that to some of our more theory oriented players.- forbiddanlight

Well, to be fair, I was wrong about you (AND Elmo, geez), in addition to playing super anti town. But you still could have let me live at that point ! It was NEARLY perfect
And Forbiddan... My apologies for lynching you. I thought you were scum up until the end... But i think I was biased by thematic knowledge.
But, part of my apparent disinterest was the fact we hit a collusive lockdown situation. Those are boring for vanillas, so I stopped caring. I apologize to des and the town for that, since I probably should have given my all til the end :S. Either way, good game, so...yeah."Never have I seen anybody glorify their own lynch."

I would have to agree with what most of Des said, I think the setup seems a bit in favour of scum, and that although I feel the town deserved to win and actually played really well, a fair amount of the OMFG slaughter is down to just how things turned out. But yeh, well played by all, especially Flask.
ty Kison for replacing into a ridiculous situation, and not stretching it out forever for no reason x)
Also, I was right about Tar's affiliation, yay. Also my gambit actually worked, yay. Woo.Succinctness is pro-town.

Also, I thought I said this, the setup was really really good. The flavour was done brilliantly, for the longest time I thought I was supposed to be killing all Cylons x.x that's Flask's influence again, heh. This was a Good Game which is kind of rare for me.
I actually thought the setup was something totally different for a while, I'll explain later tho because I gotta run @_@Succinctness is pro-town.

Thanks guys! I'm glad you enjoyed it. It's more important to me that my setups are actually fun to play and not just "clever". =)
I was really interested in this. At first I thought you were jailkeeping him because you thought he was scum. Why did you protect him when you knew you'd be blocking him too?camn wrote:Obviously, claiming an Invesigative role drew my attention.. And thus drew the consistent block. I thought your lynch was really unfortunate, actually. I thought your play improved heaps later in day 1 and had you survived and been able to avoid claiming things probablyMac wrote:I definitely think there was bad scum play D1, and I doubt we would have won either way, but the pretty much flawless victory was definitely a lucky outcome. Oh, and yeah, the town did play well enough to have earned this win irrespective of how things swung. There was a lot of good sensible (and sometimes not-so-sensible, in a good way ) town pay, which just makes scum stick out more. Making sure you yourself aren't a target is extremely pro-town!

Hmm, I'm looking forward to this. =DElmo wrote:I actually thought the setup was something totally different for a while, I'll explain later tho because I gotta run @_@.::][:::::][:::::][:::::][::.- destructor

When Kison sent in the Fark kill, I sent the following PM to Grimmy.
So Rule 1 was not just me stroking my ego. o_-Sleeper agent kill PM wrote:Your next post will be as follows:

Do not post anything else in the message.
Do not post again until Day 4.
Failure to comply with any of the above will result in a modkill for violation of Rule 1.
If I see that you have read this message, I will assume that you had the opportunity to post in the game. If you haven't posted, you will be modkilled, i.e., don't stall.
At some point in the game, I decided that I didn't like my twilight rules. That's both allowing players to talk and submit actions during twighlight. I think it favours the town far more than it usually would scum and there's also a random factor in when I'd actually make it online to lock the thread, etc. In the future, I'll probably lose the twilight phase altogether. Allowing actions to be submitted during twilight also seemed to negate a bit of the effect I intended actions being submitted during the day to have.
Btw, I think Elmo should totally make this his new avatar:
