But the book you picked out is the wrong one for this flavor, or at least it's incomplete--The Silmarillion's version of the Fall ends as Tuor arrives at Gondolin. For the complete description of events related to this game, you'll want The Book of Lost Tales 2.

But the Lost Tales will not make much sense without the Silmarillion. I am off work this week, so I have enough time.

Shos - Esp's VT claim is not 'fine'. Improving the chances of scum to hit a PR with their NK (because the more VTs are outed, the higher the chance to hit a PR) is not 'fine'. It is a lynachable offense. And because people like you who find an early day 1 VT claim 'fine'are getting more and more common on this site, it's also a good tactic as scum since apparently people find them 'towny' for it. Barf.

Assuming we're not up against some dream team unable to screw up scumgroup the road to victory for scum lies in two general categories:

1.) Sweet gambits
2.) Lobotomize the town.

#2 is done in two fashions: 1.) Kill strong players and leave dregs. 2.) Find and kill PRs.

So, method 1 is a more natural occurring kind of thing, but 2 usually requires help from the town.

All claiming VT does there is:

1.) Help solidify never dying (see #2)
2.) Help retarget whatever is at scum disposal at other targets.
3.) Create lolreaction gambits like this.

Why is it a stupid claim? No one is addressing this, and unless someone gives me reason to think otherwise it's unfounded.

I did it because I wanted to see where it would run, and figured it would shake things up. As a vanilla there isn't much weird about it. The assumption is that a majority of the playerlist will be vanilla given that this is specifically non-bastard. So therfore I figured it'd be a nice little shake up type action.
