Thanks for all of the info.
I was **This** close to copying your play in day 2 of my last newbie game, it was going on at the same time as this game, but then chickened out because I really wanted to have a better understanding of the Why before I used it myself

I think it came down to running out of time and trying to make an elim happen given the players available to consolidate at that point.
He was nowhere near a universal scumread. He was a townread for the majority of players, I think.
Why do you think that happened?
peta's suggestions for how to take the lead and get an elim you want could have helped with the end of day 1, I think.
My best guess is that people saw recent votes on James from T3 and VFP(i think) and they wanted to sheep it. I think clakso voted james because he was the majority vote or smth. it was still a super unfortunate condemm
James died because I pushed him. I don't regret it or think it was a mistake.
My evaluation was that desipte T3 and VFP being scummy, doing the tango between them was a waste of win percentage and information. If they were both town from that position, we lose the game. Even if one of them was scum, we're in similar bad spots decently often.
Suddenly killing james polarized the game into "people who wanted to kill james" and "people who were opposed" and it helped me a lot in how we progressed through the game.
I don't regret it, also, because I felt James had scum equity tbh.
see, there is where i heavily would have disagreed with you, because that type of immediate VT claim is almost always done by town, in my experience. while in effect it's anti-town as the immediate claim narrows down who is a potential pr, making it easier for scum to kill them, it's almost always, in my experience, done by down (cue our host having visions of a certain panda). scum, more often, tend to want to be flexible in what they're able to claim, they don't want to lock themselves in early. the sort of player who pulls that move as scum is quite rare.
(that being said, james, please don't immediately claim VT in the future)
but, nobody's perfect (as evidenced by my own read on entry to the game), and people seeing the game different ways is what makes it interesting.

The whole idea was based on things like:
Developing reads based on who is being more opportunistic, baiting them into thinking you're a PR if you're a VT (this worked), making them thing you're a fool so they don't night kill you, it can generate conversations.
Also there's a reality vs theory point, in theory it lowers the hammer pool for PRs, in reality it isn't that simple, scum know I'm town, they could believe me and be wrong (me being a PR), they could not believe me and be wrong (me being a VT but they think I'm a PR), then them being right, in a vacuum there's then a 50% I get hammered, which as a VT is better for not hitting a PR.
I have thought about this a fair bit and I don't think it is anti-town, more that its in a risky area.
That was my full motivation for what I did anyway if anybody was wondering.

Alright I'm coming back to this just to explain why I couldn't keep playing during this game. The main problem was that I was Mason with T3 in another game, and scum in this game. Not only would this be my first scum game that joined into the middle of it, I was more focused on playing Mason than scum, and tasking between four different chats is a bit much for me. I'll probably never sub in again if I have another game playing because I can't focus on two games at once.

I think it was just mainly b*a*d on my part (lack of conviction on my James read), but yup, he was the leading wagon 4 hours from deadline (2 on T3, 3 on James IIRC), the VFP v. T3 thing stagnating slightly, T3 sort of intriguing me with the fake crumb discussion, and the thought of a new, almost enticing wagon in the form of James, IDK, I'd chalk it down to unfortunate circumstance. I kicked myself when I saw the red investig. and we could have been 6v1 (or 7v1 if A1 and the protective worked) coming into D2 if T3 was the majority wagon, but y'know, he escaped, and props to him.
Is okie. ^^

It's all good, you don't have to explain. It's too bad you couldn't stay, is all.
Thanks to everyone, I'll hopefully see you all soon at
some
point int he future!
Also I never got to thank you for your take on meta, peta - it was a fresh take and I enjoyed reading it. Ty~
