↑ Hoopla wrote:I agree with more combinations and adding blanks, although I don't think this run was particularly indicative of the overall usefulness of the mechanic - the town played poorly, failed to secure combinations through bad strategy and a lack of cohesion, and a couple of players made poor choices/made mistakes. I think if this setup was run a thousand times in parallel universes, the amount of power secured by town in this game would be well below the average.
I agree in principal but the one element that I want to address with this is the inherent "1-shot" nature of the powers (with the exception of powers like WhiteMage which lasts 2 Nights). The very nature of sacrificing letters (and thus abilities to make future combinations easily) still places the game in a position that is much closer to Mountainous than a traditional set-up IMO. Adding more viable letters and more combinations might make it necessary to adjust the total Letter distribution somewhat (I think COP for example might be too easy to make if blanks are added) but oveall I think making combos easy to make probably would be the way to go. The scum Nightkill happens regardless so Town needs some counter-balance for that. Hell .. just make the scum making the Nightkill have to use up one letter of their choice to do so if you think that would be a nice balance.

Town got what it deserved, I'm saying this as a townie.

I still think this was pretty much the worst possible outcome for town and it's tainting the objective view of the setup - we fucked up letter strategy, made mistakes in selecting letters, and a gambit cost us two of our allotted four mislynches.
Each role is 1-shot, which obviously reduces the value - but we really should have expected to make at least 6-7 combinations.- maybe more if the game went longer.

Here's my QT if anyone's interested. I was able to follow along at the beginning but then the walls got to me...
Fun mechanic and fun game to watch, though, and Quil's flip posts were amazing.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Bam!
So few things
1. MoI: I want to personally say that I had so much fun being your partner, such a delicate dance we played and you did a magnificent job. I will admit that Post 1290 SCARED THE CRAP out of me. I was like, "WHY DONT YOU JUST GO FOR VIJAY AND END THIS" but I knew if anything happened to me you would be in a good spot.
Amrun: Seriously, did anybody suspect you with actual solid reasoning? Nice game
2. Vijay: Glad to know you'll stay for Futurama Mafia, it will be a fun game.
3. Quilford: Very nice modding job, a fun and interesting mechanic that didn't really favor either side but rather equally added to both. I might pre/in to the sequel but I don't know what'll be on my plate.
GREAT GAME
HAD FUN
HOPE TO SEE YOU GUYS AGAIN

Do I have some sort of MoI-town tunnelvision goggles on or something? I swear I left those at home...

I'm glad you didn't panic. By the time I got back from V/LA you and Amrun were both already parked on Vijay. No reason for me to leave the possible hammer in the hands of Town when it was the clinching mislynch. Additionally I think it would have been pretty out of character for me to follow up to my prior attacks on Letter Steal and you for picking S to not vote you based on AV's action. Luckily the whole "order doesn't matter" theory came through for us in letting Vijay go first!

Flawless scum victory.

I'm confused...
From the mafia QT
I totally concur with killing DCL.
He pretty much is confirmed town and mislynches are available.
How did I end up confirmed town for narrowly avoiding a lynch and then pushing a mislynch on ICE?
I can understand why you would want to kill me base on my letters. 1 away from both white mage and tracker/watcher, but as far as lynches went I certainly didn't feel like I was in the clear going into day 3.
Anyway, scum, you played a good game.

It can be summed up as such - your reaction to being put at L-1 that Day was obv-Town. Specifically mentioning that people needed to collect had no Pro-Scum motivation. Also AV was pretty Town looking himself and my gut said pushing on you would have resulted in him defending you strongly and attacking the player that attacked you. Hard to bank on Town making that move. Also ... Iceguy was a good lynch from the standpoint of everyone who didn't know his alignment. Expecting to get flak for it was not realistic IMO.

No because you've called me scum as Town in the past ....

I really enjoyed this game, though it was tough for me to get back into all games after my vacation. But I really enjoyed toeing the line of obedient townie and mischievous scum in the opening day.
Really cool set-up, though more combos would help town out and improve balance, I think, by making it harder for scum to guess who was close to getting what power.
