I wouldn't say Numbers is top 150 or top 100, even if he was great while he was around, it wasn't for thaaat long, and he didn't have the chance to make that much of an impact on the story even if he was doing
well
. I agree that this is far too early for him though.

Oh hell yes. She was everyone's BEST FRIEND. Like, Jesse was strategy Spencerbot. Numbers? Numbers was that social person everyone wanted a piece of. Most likely to be voted Prom Queen. If she hadn't quit, only thing that would have taken her out might have been some sort of item, but even then, there weren't ones really strong enough for that. She was almost assuredly going to the end unless people could stop drinking the kool-aid and following the cult leader and realize she could only go to the end with one person and not the entire game. She was enchanting.

There are more people like Amumu Bro, they tend not to be talked about with the same amount of affection I suppose. Not enough kool-aid.

It's not that Numbers was socially perfect or likeable. Numbers was funny and memorable. If we're making LoL comparisons, Numbers was Malphite levels of over the top.

Amumu's an easy example from a recent game I was in that gets the point across fairly well.

In a regular game that would have been 11th place? Numbers as a Ghost was around until Final 7. Because of the fake merge it was an impact on the entire living cast, not to mention being the tribe mascot and the hilarious effort to dig Star Sapphire out of the hole she was in as a ghost. Arkham City is a weird game in that being dead stopped literally no one from having an impact on the game including the Final Tribal Council.

I feel like the argument shouldn't be whether "social" or "crazy" characters are seen as good characters, but whether people who play like bots and are emotionless are good characters. That's not to say you can't have the opinion of which ones you prefer, because that's valid, and in general I do believe one OTT character can make for a better story than a bunch of CP ones.

Because I think if Kawazu doesn't have CC's emotions and personality leaking through, it's not nearly as compelling, if Amumu doesn't have Blackberry's personality, then it's just a bot, too. I don't think I'd find a character that was all rage or all chaos very interesting.

It's the same with social play. There are players who just talk strategy in their confessionals, who are seen as social threats, who play very level headed and use their social skills to get farther, but they don't really show much emotion and don't make compelling characters.

I can't really speak toward Numbers personally, but it's clear Betch touched some people in that short time so I'm willing to bet Numbers wasn't a bot.

Most "social" people really aren't bots. I'll use Ori and Lulu because BRO brought them up. Snakes has a bunch of angry confessionals about how things aren't going his way at times, and even made a little audio confessional rant at one point that was hilariously entertaining to listen to post-game. And without talking about myself too much, I'll just bring up post-Malphite vote and the F5 vote that kept flipping back and forth as reasons Lulu wasn't just "boringly likable."

Klick is definitely a player who has a fair amount of characters who I agree fit the type of Social you're talking about Bro, and also aren't talked about nearly as often as they should be maybe.

ill give you Ori was boringly likable

Lulu disappeared and that hurt her likability but she wasn't boring. at least not to me. that Hail Mary worddump was astounding

I feel like we're kind of over rating the likelihood of a player winning who left before the merge. We are not prophets.

That's exactly what Numbers was, though.

289. Yoshi 2.0 (swyellowtail) - Destiny Islands

Image

"Yes, I am in the F4 with my remaining yellow tribe members."

Yoshi was a character with little to no time to shine, so a middling position seems about right for him. The problem with Yoshi as a character is he got voted out early, only to come back at merge through a revival challenge and then swing the game in part via existing (as opposed to doing anything) because he ran to the people who voted him out instead of making actual connections.

Overall, mediocre. His power was that he made people's votes not count.

I was going to write an essay about why I hate Yoshi as a character so much when I cut him, but I guess I don't have to now.

What it boils down to is that in addition to, as you said, messing up the game and providing the ultimately dominant alliance a very easy path to the end (eliminating the seemingly more interesting alliance in the process), he's also just super self-important and annoying

More specifically, I think the "yes she definitely would have won" stuff is kind of a slap in the face to the actual winner
