After my most recent bad role in the bad role idea's thread... I am thinkin of doing a
Berserk mafia game
... with crazy rules and such. And lots of violence!

And gore!

And possibly goat sex! (although probably not)

I'm not sure what I shoudl run for my Mini Theme I want to run soon:

Ideas I have:

Alchoholics Anonymous Mafia (Basically, a bunch of drunks realize that they want to revolt against the bartenders for overcharging them. They're drunk, it makes sense)
Delusional D-Bag Mafia (Everyone is quite delusional, or something like that)
Internet Mafia (You are the internet, now you must lynch your fellow websites?)
This Role Sucks Mafia (I found a bunch of roles from the Worst Roles Thread...that I really want to use. I'm thinking of half balancing out them, and half...sort of bastardized).
Nocmen Hates His Life Mafia (Me and my friends that played mafia IRL thought recently of how our personalities would fit into roles. Some of the inside jokes are lost, but my friends are very fucked up, it could work out).


Any comments on my ideas, and/or which one I should try and use ?

Of that group, AA Mafia has the greatest potential for funny+understandable... This Role Sucks would probably be second for me.

Paranoia (The RPG) mafia - The computer is your friend - get those commies!
The Order of the Stick Mafia - plenty of interesting primary and secondary characters.

:-)

I would call dibs on some of these, but I'm not running a theme anytime soon. So I'd love to play these themes under another moderator.

But thats cool, its diverse you could do it again and again and again with different mechanics.

Just throwing out an idea here, but has a game of Weretiger been run yet? As in, Mafia, with the usual Werewolf theme, but with tigers instead of wolves?

That would just be a normal game with a different name though... unless you have some other kind of theme behind it (Were Wars... Wolves and tigers and bears oh my!)

Would like to claim/enquire about previous: RPG Mafia

I give a list of stats and you allocate points to them, which will give you certain "class" or "class features".

Will be drawn from pretty much every RPG game I've ever played.

Heh :) I'd like to see this one too. Any idea when it'll be ready? :D

Don't know if this has been mentioned/done yet, but how about Sanatorium Mafia? XD The general idea:
Stricken by the plague that is Life, many a tough cop and brilliant doctor now lay helpless in the Sanatorium, victims of their own overly-distressed minds. However, within the place that was meant to be their eventual salvation, trouble begins brewing within the most deeply convoluted individuals, who vow to take as many lives as they can in what they see to be no more than a prison.

Only with the help of a Psychologist can any of them be cured, whether for good or ill, though who knows when Life might strike again. Will the mentally ill patients be able to find their murderers before it's too late?


So some roles include: Life Incarnate, Psychologist, Schizophrenic, Insomniac, plus
many
other mentally ill roles (ex. Paranoid Cop).

Heh, and I'm working on an insanity Mafia too, albeit focussing primarily on amnesiacs, delusionals and variations thereon. A popular concept, apparently.

Phoebus was going to do a big Insanity game, did that ever happen?

I think the idea is appealing to mods because it offers freedom of movement, but it would be a right bitch to balance properly.

Freedom of movement? My vision's a bit of a spiritual successor to Covert Ops (where there's a gameplay theme - in Covert Ops, the shifting of the nightgame into the daygame and in-thread discussion; whereas in Insanity the concept is incomplete understanding of roles within a framework that allows one to divine full role functionality over time), and yes, it's a bitch to balance (but moreso drafting than balancing: coming up with functional roles for the setup) - but I'm not quite sure what you mean by "freedom of movement" here.

You know, and I know, that nearly any (functional) role mechanism can be justified in nearly any setup. But I think it's appealing to some mods to have a setup that lends itself toward infinite possibilities along the role mechanics spectrum. I'm thinking about a large
Alien
theme game.

All role PMs would be posted on the first page. Many of the townies would have a one-shot or two-shot vig ability, most scum (Aliens) would start out as Facehuggers, and Adult aliens would require more than one successful vig or lynch to die.

A possible role PM
Facehugger wrote: You are a nasty Alien with players XXXX, YYYY, and ZZZZ. You are an Alien Facehugger. Once per game you may post "Hug: (target player)" which will immediately end the day. During any subsequent day or twilight period (after the first) you may post "Burst!" which will result in the death of the hugged player and immediately end the day. After a successful Burst! post you will receive the Juvenile Alien role PM, and assume that role. You win when only Aliens remain in the ship.
each Juvenile Alien would have a NK, and Adult Aliens would have a NK and be really hard to kill.

Balance issues will be tricky, and I would prefer to collaborate with a more experienced mod in designing and running the game.
