There isn't a huge backlog of newbies. Newbies are 6 to a game, SEs 2 to a game, ICs 1 to a game. The newbie section is actually pretty depleted, and most SEs play elsewhere on the site, so the queue is pretty much under control at the moment.
You don't
need
to play games in the newbie queue; it's not a requirement, but it's a good way to get the workings of the site, including simple site features that people won't explain off-hand in more advanced games. While I'm sure the offer is appreciated, the ICs actually need to have experience here so that they are familiar with site meta and whatnot.

I had taken you out because you replaced into your first Newbie Game. Once you've completed your first game on site (newbie or otherwise), you may /in for another and be placed in as a Newbie until you've completed your second.

It generally takes 24 hours for thread to be setup and roles to go out, 24 hours for people to confirm their roles and then you can begin.
