Hadn't we just discussed how some of us (myself included) think you look even more scummy
because of
the self vote at this point?

I gotta admit, BlueSin, it looks somewhat like you made the gambit of self-voting hoping we'd all go off you - like we did kwyjibo - and when it came to one off the lynch, you realised it wasn't working and unvoted yourself.

Mr Stoofer wrote:First, I agree that my role name is off-kilter. That is the point I was tryng to make and explains why I simply remembered the grammatically accurate version.
Yes, I was conceding that point, based on the new information - as I said at the time, that was mostly gut anyway.
Mr Stoofer wrote:5. As for what I said about Bluesin, I was being perfectly honest and I would adopt what SpeedyKQ just said:
SpeedyKQ just wrote: I'm getting really tired of the self-voting too and I'm considering a metagame policy of lynch all self-voters.
Mr Stoofer wrote:I think that BlueSin should be replaced by a player who will help the town. I don't think the town should waste a lynch on him.
That's the
opposite
of Speedy's position, that self-voting
should
earn a vote, as a standard metagame ploy. So, you're fed up of self-voting... but you're not adopting his position.
Mr Stoofer wrote:I think that BlueSin is a townie frustrated by being bandwagonned and frustrated by not having a useful power role. I think he is being childish and I have even started a thread in the "Mafia Discussion" forum about self voting. I made it quite clear in that thread that I believe the most likely cause of self-voting is frustration of a vanilla townie. (See for example Harry Potter 2 in GL at the moment, where Digit Ne, a vanilla townie, started a bandwagon on himself.) I think that BlueSin should be replaced by a player who will help the town. I don't think the town should waste a lynch on him.
The problem with this approach is that self-voting is a strategy that has been proven effective by scum to dispel suspicion (Maximus mentioned one time it had worked for him, and once I found myself self-voting as a townie [for convoluted but valid reasons I won't go into here] and was surprised how much trust it earned me), which just isn't a reasonable response to a play that hurts the town (if the self-voter's town), with only a few rare exceptions. If anything, self-voting should be viewed as an inherently suspicious act, as townies have no reason to make such a move. On that basis, a metagame ploy of "lynch all self-voters" is a wise call, as it undermines the potential success of such a strategy, and the times when it's useful for town are the circumstances when that townie needs to be dead anyway.

There were some valid reasons for self-voting discussed in that thread, but none of them apply in this situation, other than an attempt to dispel suspicion. BlueSin's been active in this game and the bandwagon was neither particularly large nor particularly aggressive, and plenty was happening in the game - if BlueSin
was
frustrated by the way the game was going so far, I'd have to say he's going to experience a lot of frustration playing Mafia.

If BlueSin wanted out of the game, he should have asked to be replaced. He didn't.

Furthermore, this comment here:
BlueSin wrote:I think this self vote kinda clear myself, since scum don't need to take such risk(-1 lynch)?
What is this, if not trying to play off the self-vote in order to clear suspicion?

Bluesin's comment (as quoted by Seol) makes me even more suspicious of him at this point. It's possible that we may decide that he's pro-town, partially due to the self-vote, but it seems to me that he's trying to wave it in our faces as if it's self-evident that he must be innocent.
Major FOS: Bluesin
for that, although I am still not satisfied with Mr Stoofer's explanations of his actions.

Can we get a prod for Brushhopper? Once the pressure on him was relieved, he added his vote to the Assassin wagon and returned to lurking. He hasn't posted for 5 days.

Might that possibly be because of his claimed 3-posts-per-day posting restriction?

That is really unfair on me - he posted this after I had indicated my belief that Bluesin was a frustrated townie.

Like Thesp and others I think that that comment of BlueSin puts a wholly different complexion on his behaviour. I still have a nagging doubt that BlueSin might just be a poor player but I am certainly prepared to give a
FOS: BlueSin
for this comment.

Your other comments on my attitude towards BlueSin are also unfair. It is clear from my thread on self-voting that my views on this topic have changed, during the course of this game, in light of the points made in that thread.

Sorry, I should have been more clear - that contributed nothing to my suspiciion of you, just to my suspicion of Bluesin. Here I was trying to strengthen my argument, not to imply that you were ignoring information.

What comments, specifically, do you think were unfair? I intended my last post to be a debate on the implications of self-voting, and a justification to attack BlueSin for his behaviour - not an attack on you. Furthermore, whilst your views on self-voting may have changed, you still don't think it's enough to vote BlueSin - and that's what I'm trying to argue, that both his self-vote and the way he's trying to use it now are scummy and do deserve your vote.

Just quickly to respond to Seol before the Mod locks the thread: I didn't vote BlueSin because he was 1 away from a lynch and as I said I am still in two minds about whether he is scum or just a poor player.

Final Vote Count

Assasin - 1 (brushhopper)
BlueSin - 6 (Thesp, Seol, dybeck, SpeedyKQ, Assasin, BlueSin)
Mr Stoofer - 1 (Mastermind of Sin)
Not Voting - 3 (kwyjibo, Mr Stoofer, SquareKnight)

Gathering for the first time to implement their plan, the towns people were a bit nervous. The mafia could be anyone, after all. After a period of slow discussion and little talking in the morning, the townies who had chosen to sleep in showed up, arguments developed, and accuasations flew from person to person. The first major suspect was brushhopper, who soon claimed, "Ugh... I is... am... too tired for this. Can' talk right. I go sleep now...". Attention spun to Assasin, who replied, "I'm a popular guy. I just want to make friends! Don't hurt me, people. Seol, be my friend." After some more discussion, the town's sights settled upon BlueSin, who after Assasin's last phrase, had cried, "You don't want to just be friends! You want to trick us into helping the mafia! Or convert us to some crazy religion!" At the funny looks he was getting, he mumbled, "Uh, if you guys don't think so... I'll shut up now," but as the rest of the townies exchanged glances, they strung up a noose. After BlueSin angrily thust his head through it and then pulled back, there were a few doubts, but the town's resolve firmed, and in the end, BlueSin was willing to stand quietly during his execution.

Afterwards, the town wondered what they had accomplished. Gathering together, they walked into BlueSin's home. Everything seems normal, but in his bedroom, they found an all-black suit of clothing, its shoes wrapped in rags to muffle noise. Clearly he'd been doing some sneaking. Wondering if they could have found one of the mafia, the townies walked into his study, discussing the development. As they were poking through his mail, someone found an item completely unrelated to the documents it was stored in. "This is a book of notes on some of us! He was sneaking into our houses at night and looking around, seeing what stuff we had!" Feeling terrible that they had lynched someone trying to track down the mafia, the townies filed out, agreeing to look through his notes tomorrow to see if he'd found anything useful, since it was getting late tonight. As they left, someone waited behind, then held a lighter to the notebook...

BlueSin, the Inquisitive Townie, has been lynched. It is Night Two.
Please get choices in within the next four days.

In the depths of night, Mastermind of Sin was staying awake, working hard. Surrounded by papers carefully he'd arranged over the last several years, he was carefully sorting through them for references to a certain member of the town, cursing himself for spending so much time on the town's mayor, doctor, and cop rather than the previously-nameless townies that were the only ones left alive after the mafia's attack. Still, he supposed he'd done well- without the information he had sent them about those powerful people's habits, the mafia might not have been able to launch such a crippling first blow. He returned to work. Fifteen minutes later, he found the set of notes he'd been searching for, and began to look through them for notes on a certain townie. Then he heard a footstep behind him, and quickly stood up and spun around. He barely had time for his eyes to widen in shock before the knife went into his throat.

SquareKnight was also up in the depths of night, but his labor was one of cans of paint and tripwires rather than books of notes. Over the course of several hours, he'd managed to wire his house with tripwires, alarms, and traps enough to catch any invader in the act. Hopefully, with these in place, he'd be safe. Returning to his bed to sleep, though, he noticed movement. Cautiously calling "Who's there?" and wondering how they'd snuck past his traps, he moved towards it. As he rounded the corner, he ran facefirst into a firing gun. His body pitched backwards onto a wire, and in an ironic twist, was covered in his special,
unwashable light green
paint formula, perfect for marking intruders. His assailant slowly slipped away, careful to flawlessly note and dodge each trap as he went.

Mastermind of Sin, the Townie Townie (mafia), and SquareKnight, the Trickster Townie, are dead. It is Day 2.

I don't know if we have a vig or an SK to thank for the second killing, but a knife is the traditional weapon of choice for serial killers on this site.

I still think from yesterday's conversation that Mr. Stoofer is the most likely scum.

This wouldn't surprise me, and I could certainly go for such a push at the moment. However, I'd like to hear more from him first, and from brushhopper now that he can speak more, and I'd like confirmation from Seol that he is or is not part of the Happy Friends Club, or whatever it's called. :)
