It'll be a large theme, so its gonna have to wait until I'm eligible to mod one of those, but someday in the near future.
I'll take that stunning silence to mean you're all gonna /in when signups open.

This thread doesn't usually end up working for what it's supposed to, so don't take anything that happens in this thread as what interest for the game when it is actually run will be.

You might have to remove the SK from the setup. In fact you will.

Obviously Gilligan should be a forced RBer. (That is, an RBer that must use his ability every night.) Gilligan just can't help messing things up for everyone else. :)

Yeah Gilligan was planned to be a Roleblocker, and obv. there'd be no SK.

2 v 5 like the old newbies.

farside22 wrote:So I had this dream last night that gave me an interesting idea for mafia. It would have to be a large game (which I can't run anytime soon).

Basic idea is battle of the sexes.
Men vs Women on who is the better scum hunter.

Here is how it would work I'm thinking 9 or 10 on each team.
The women would have to figure out of the 9 or 10 guys which ones were the scum and vis versa. The team that figures out who is scum first has bragging rights on which sex is the better scum hunters.
Thought?
Wouldn't work (at least not like that)

The scum wouldn't be scummy. They'd be trying just as hard as the townies of their sex to identify the other scum. They don't have to accuse or be accused by anyone they're interacting with, they don't really have any extra information (thus nixing "informed minority), and there would be no penalty for being right. They wouldn't even have an incentive to kill at night, considering that it keep their party larger.

What you're talking about is a game of Battleship.
They would be killing someone on the other side so yes there is an incentive to NK's and lynches. I can see the game being non informitive, but I can also see the chaos. I think if people play like they normally do they have a better chance at winning, but who knows.
Still not seeing it. Each side would have masons with a kill.

I'd love to play in this if it ever got worked out though.

All the talk about Inadvertent Mountainous games in this thread has given me a particularly evil idea.

Mountainous, or Not?

The idea: the mod puts together two possible setups for the game. One of them is an Inadvertent Mountainous setup with X scum, and the other is a (balanced) setup with some town power, and X+1 scum. (For example, with 12 players, X would be 2. If the mod was crazy enough to try this with 18 players, X would be 3.) Then the mod flips a coin to decide which setup to use. So the players have to figure out whether the game is mountainous or not.

So that the scum don't know immediately whether the game is mountainous or not, one of the scum in the normal setup is a Traitor. He knows who his fellow scum are, but can't communicate with them at night. He has no say in who the scum kill, unless he is the only scum left. Fortunately, he is immune to his fellow scums' nightkills.

The hard part in setting this game up: choosing two setups that have a good chance of prolonging the confusion over whether the setup is mountainous or not. Note: besides the roles listed in the Inadvertent Mountainous wiki page, I'd consider things like naive/paranoid cops, quack doctors, etc. to count towards a mountainous game. (How about a rolecop that always gives "townie" as a result? )

Hmm, I'm debating A Game of Thrones mafia. Would anyone be interested in that?

I actually figured C9-type thing could work for this...
Example wrote:Doc, Nurse, Mafia, Townies.
Doc, Mafia, Townies.
Nurse, Mafia, Townies.
Mafia, Townies.
...and with Cop/Deputy included...
Example wrote:Doc, Nurse, Mafia, Townies.

Nurse, Mafia, Townies.
Mafia, Townies.
Doc, Nurse, Cop, Mafia, Townies
Doc, Cop, Mafia, Townies.
Nurse, Cop, Mafia, Townies.
Cop, Mafia, Townies.
Doc, Nurse, Deputy, Mafia, Townies.
Doc, Deputy, Mafia, Townies.
Nurse, Deputy, Mafia, Townies.
Deputy, Mafia, Townies.
Doc, Nurse, Cop, Deputy, Mafia, Townies.
Doc, Cop, Deputy, Mafia, Townies.
Nurse, Cop, Deputy, Mafia, Townies.
Cop, Deputy, Mafia, Townies.
Obviously, the Mafia would need powers to counterbalance these (which would be suitably useless/useful) depending on the setup chosen...

Hmm. That's probably a better direction than what I was thinking; that way, it doesn't have to be all-or-nothing. There are setups with some useful powers and some useless ones.

Also, we might be able to avoid varying numbers of scum, as long as the right mafia powers are chosen.

Hmm. I'm gonna deliberate over this.

This sounds potentially hilarious, especially with post restrictions. I can see PJ playing the Professor.

Oh yes post restrictions. That is exactly what makes this game work.

An italian mob family splits into two factions after the godfather dies. Both want each other dead, but have to deal with the pesky citizens of the town.

3 mafia from family A
3 mafia from family B
10 townies
1 vig

Here's the catch: The mafia all know each other. Family A knows every member of family B and vice versa. Of course, the mafia are all bulletproof to eachother (thanks JDodge!)
bumped for awesomeness
i don't know if this has been run already but i would definitely want to mod it

Gangs of New York sounds awesome, but it's not a game of mafia as such.

Also awesome is the Timewolf, but that also differs from a game of mafia in many ways.

Wow you actually read them.

Yes, the forum I started on had a much looser definition of werewolf ('s what we called mafia) and so themed games like this were the rule rather than the exception.

I'm in the queue now for a semi-open ten player Deep South game with Anarcha-Feminist + Space Opera flavor and normal roles:
Biker Riot Grrrls in Space!

what do y'all think?

You could mod one of these in the Mish Mash forum, I think. But I don't really know, I don't play there much. If/when Gangs of New York runs, please send me a PM or something. Sounds really awesome.

Anarcha-feminist in the Brownian or in the McElroy sense? Brownian would be interesting.

both. The descendants of anarcho-bikers gangs (with differing ideologies) are on board a generational starship in search of a suitable planet to found their single-sex utopia!

Does anyone like the idea of
Weapon Mafia
where every player is a weapon and most have killing roles?
