because if the reasoning was something important im giving him an out to not have to point fingers at it?

why the narrow focus? im the only thing in this game that you have any interest in commenting on?

DUDE I WAS TRYING FOR WORKSAFE!

*cough*

Aaanyway, some game relevant content.

This is mainly for Anti but just so you folks are aware, as it says in my sig I am V/LA at weekends. Basically I work from home but my husband works in London and he gets really pissy with me if I spend my weekends playing mafia because we own a small farm and there's a ton of outside stuff to do at weekends. Midweek is my relaxation time basically. I try and keep read up in snatches at weekends but long interactions and walls and spreadsheeting (which I do) are basically an impossibility. This did seem awkward in Pokemon a bit and I was slightly nervous about signing up to a large again after that but I <3 Anti and really wanted to play this game. If this becomes detrimental please voice this to Anti or me or in thread. I will be absolutely willing to replace out if this gets too difficult to best help the game.

I cannot begin to count the many, many times that kind of response popped into my head as scum and I had to wean myself off of doing it, as opposed to the 1 or 2 times I've done it as town under a "fuck everything" attitude which shouldn't really be a part of the question right now.

But no, this isn't an "I'd only do it as scum so of course Mac is doing it as scum". It's simply just a response that's more scum-motivated than town-motivated.

Initial response was offhand comment shaking it off, second response was a scum "just in case" damage control post that, while it tries to keep the tone light and sarcastic, its own existence shows scum instinctively taking vezok's post seriously to curb early suspicion out of necessity.

No, because if it was, then I'd be calling you town before you claim, remain ignorant of your claim while I'm behind and continue to defend you against old attacks. ;)
Is this where I discredit your townplay instead now?

So it's more likely Mac lacked your self restraint as scum, who should be watching every single thing they said, than that he(?) is town and speaking without concern for creating a "townie" persona?

Eh, I am sorry it wasn't good for you, but I have I think got a decent townread on ika (will continue poking with sticks though) wanted to express to Sonic Boom not to spam too much, and wanted to get my potentially problematic V/LA out in the open.

What in particular was problematic for you?

No.

Scum hate being scumread for dumb reasons, and earlygame dumb/seemingly-unsupported scumreads. These are universal. Yes, town can hate that too, but they are also likely to just not care significantly more often than scum.

However, instinctive/basic scumplay is to try and shut early suspicion down quickly for obvious reasons (part of a more detailed explanation is because you don't want to have that kind of unnecessary baggage to carry on fighting against, but again, should be obvious reasons).

Here's how it went down:

is vezok making a(n oddly angry) remark about Mac bussing us.

is a regular flippant "lol fuck you idc" response. This would have resulted in me having a null to nulltown read on Mac had he left it at that.

However, his followup to that in is massively scummy. It's scum making a damage control post, in case his 92 hadn't sufficiently handwaved away attention, or in case people would react negatively to 92's fluff-like dismissal of vezok's 91. (Imagine a celebrity actually taking the time to address a particular piece of tabloid gossip instead of ignoring it as usual - why even bother, unless that specific rumor actually has something true to it/worries you?) This was completely unnecessary for him to do as town, while him as scum had ample reason to make that post (again, damage control just in case vezok's suspicion there escalated or caught on to others).

I understand your reasons, I just think you're wrong and overthinking it. Attributing way more to the post than it warrants. Everyone hates being scumread for dumb reasons, only someone incompetent would press the issue for "damage control" because they, like you, can read the thread and see that sufficient damage control was done with the first dismissive post. The second "damage control" post is a terrible play for scum trying to hand wave the accusation away, and is more in line with town saying what's on their mind because they aren't worrying about trying to act like town.

We both see the same things, understand the same motivations, you just choose to believe Mac is bad at being scum, while I choose to believe he's town reacting honestly. Which is more likely?

TL;DR: the reasons scum has for making that post are so incredibly obvious that only obvtown or terrible scum would have made it.

It's barely an "obvious scum post" considering pretty much everyone else skipped over it or didn't bother to read into it just like we usually do for most seemingly-innocuous posts and exchanges.

Also, OMGUS doesn't exist unless you're exceptionally new to the game. If there's anything that's so
obviously
scum motivated that it's actually town, right now it'd most likely be you trying to shut down a Mac wagon using that buzzword and subpar "it could go either way but my way is the right one" WIFOM dismissals.

The Inert Pair Effect

Image

The inert pair effect is the tendency of the electrons in the outermost atomic s orbital to remain unionized or unshared in compounds of post-transition metals. The term inert pair effect is often used in relation to the increasing stability of oxidation states that are 2 less than the group valency for the heavier elements of groups 13, 14, 15 and 16. The term "inert pair" was first proposed by Nevil Sidgwick in 1927.

As an example in group 13 the +1 oxidation state of T (l) is the most stable and Tl (III) compounds are comparatively rare. The stability of the +1 oxidation state increases in the following sequence:
Al (I) < Ga (I) < In (I) < Tl (I)
The same trend in stability is noted in groups 14, 15 and 16. As such the heaviest members of the groups, e.g. lead, bismuth and polonium are comparatively stable in oxidation states +2, +3, and +4 respectively.
The lower oxidation state in each of the elements in question has 2 valence electrons in s - orbitals. On the face of it, a simple explanation could be that the valence electrons in an s orbital are more tightly bound and are of lower energy than electrons in p orbitals and therefore less likely to be involved in bonding.[3] Unfortunately this explanation does not stand up. If the total ionization potentials (IP) of the 2 electrons in s orbitals (the 2nd + 3rd ionization potentials), are examined it can be seen that they increase in the sequence:
In < Al < Tl < Ga.

Well, yes, of course it doesn't exist because usually town has more reason than just that, or at least they try to rationalize it as more than just that, but that doesn't change the fact that the term simply means a vote made on someone who has voted for you. A vote which is typically ignored, as a result. Adding your case on top of it serves to draw attention to a standard, innocuous part of RVS, and I'm just wondering why.

i'm also curious why, when I basically just repeated what someone else had said the page before about OMGUS, you chose to respond to me, and not them. It's all very interesting.

Hmm. I suppose you are right about it being barely an obvious scum post, in that it's only an obvious play if you actually take another look at it...but all it takes is a moment of looking at it to see it, so, I'm going to maintain that it's definitely far from subtle or good.

Train on Shakira: Why? Any of you, why? It's currently at the point where its momentum practically guarantees that slots lynch if you all leave your votes there for any notable amount of time, so...why?

Unless I'm mistaken, you're my only townread who's bothered to decry my scumread on Mac as just OMGUS. Which is frustrating, as the rest of your stance on this situation and interaction is as well.

As a note, I'm strongly of the opinion that people throwing OMGUS out where it doesn't apply is more harmful than just rolling with scumreads and votes that are OMGUS or just look like it, and seeing where they go. In other words, mafia would be so much better if the OMGUS buzzword disappeared entirely and we took crossvotes at face value, because as things are (in this instance and the vast majority of times it comes up) OMGUS only serves to easily discredit legit reads and cases.

Like, if I was any more of a dick I'd just delete the wiki page for OMGUS entirely (or rather, if I had the rights and lack of ~standards~ to, I would) - I'm already annoyed enough by the excessive misuse of the term.
