the server crash from the Karma patch.
Riot feels apologetic, so everyone gets 4 win IP boost.

I've won my last 6 ranked games in a row, and have concluded that the game is easy. I think my MMR is in a relatively good spot right now, because I'm queuing up with people 2-3 divisions above me and getting 25-30 LP per win.

Just, make sure you are at least proficient at one of the botlane roles and preferably have a halfdecent jungle. Odds are top/mid won't be forced on you should you be last pick, so covering the other three at least prevents you from some annoying games (and botlane is left more often then not).

Or, out of respect for the rest of the League community, you could just not put your team at a disadvantage by playing ranked before you're actually ready to play ranked.

It doesn't actually follow that someone 'not prepared for Ranked' (whatever that means) is putting anyone at a disadvantage by playing. They are being paired with either other unrated people, or else other people in the ~1200 MMR bracket. In the former case, no one is being disadvantaged, since no one can reasonably expect perfectly balanced teams when everyone is in placement. In the latter case, adding <1000 MMR players to the 1200 MMR pool actually slightly raises the MMR of all existing players in the 1200 MMR bracket.

Note that I also don't agree with the entire 'not prepared for Ranked' concept, beyond "You are not prepared for Ranked if you do not own 16 champions or are not Summoner Level 30". In a perfect world, someone who is Lvl30 has no reason to ever play Normal Draft games on SR unless they want to play with a premade group of more than 2 people.

Until he ends up in Silver 5 through the grace of gods because 4-6 gets you in Silver V, I believe, and then loses 60-70% of his games once he gets there.

a) Still doesn't affect anyone else, because matchmaking is based on MMR, not Division/League.
b) I went 8-2 and got to SilverIV. Not sure what that means about ending up in SilverV.

Sens did you play ranked at all in Season2?

Yes.
~100 games, ended up with about 950 Elo. After the soft-reset, that should have put me at about 1075.

Previous positionning in other seasons have an effect.
I was 1350 or so when the League System was implemented and went something around 7-3 so it put me in S2

I was 1400 at the end of Season 2 and got put in S4 after going 3-7 or 4-6.

Yeah, capitalize on every mistake anyone makes and you should have very few problems for a while. Silver is the ELO range where people are still pretty ignorant on how to come back from early mistakes.

So weird... day 1, I played so much of LoL and it was pretty neat. Day 2/3... lag city. I keep dcing and watching my guy run straight for 5 seconds before regaining control. Ughhh!!!! I dont know if it is an internet problem or a mac problem.

Could be mac, because the client is new, could be riot servers cause riot sucks, could be your internet cause (insert shitty isp here)

Brandi wrote:Sort of. It's competitive, yes. If you're just trying to have "fun" and don't care about winning- you will probably not do very well.
However, winning can be very fun.

It doesn't make sense to enter a "competition" for something when you don't even know how half of the game works, though. Try to get some experience with how more champions and roles work before you do something like that, you'll feel a lot better about yourself and so will your team.

Yes it does... If competition is fun to a lv30, he goes to ranked. And you won't learn faster then there. Just make sure you know the most important roles so you don't get shitty games where roles aren't filled and people are raging right from the start and he should be ok. Every day thousands of people must be new to ranked. The system is made to cope with that (and it isn't even hard to do that). You don't have to invent additional social rules.

Yes, maybe he ends up in bronze 5. Maybe he doesn't. He'll find out then. That's half the fun of ranked. You get ranked on your skills.

Planning to get ranked on your skills before you have any skills is the silliest argument yet, I love it.

All I remember is that I fully regretted jumping into ranked for the first time when I did. I wish I had stayed out for a few months to get more champions and improve my general play beforehand.

Okay, so this League system has got to be one of the most obtuse things I've ever seen. Previously, I was moving 16-20 LP a game for wins and about the same, but maybe a little less for losses. I re-promoted to S3 recently, and suddenly my gains went up. Shouldn't they have gone down, now that the MMR standard I'm held to is higher? I played 4 ranked games today, and went 3-1. I gained like 51 LP total, but that's not even the strange part. I got 47 MMR according to Lolking. How in the hell does that happen? I'd have gotten like 24 Elo under the old system. Before you ask if I was duo, yes, I was duo for the last two games, but he's only S1 and I still got like 23 LP from my first win.

I mean, I love getting rewarded, but seriously? I don't even know what happened to put my growth on steroids, but I'm happy.

Obligatory reminder that you should stop the bleeding as best you can if you're losing your lane. I fed FB to Riven after getting camped top by Xin, but I played passive and waited for a gank. Hec came and we nearly got it, but he did a stupid overextension and got himself killmurdered, putting Riven up 2-0. Next gank, I got the kill and entirely stopped her snowball, even going as far as snowballing myself. I build tanky the second I knew she was winning, I played passive and farmed under turret to mitigate her advantage, and that lane was warded 24/7. I ended 4-1.

As far as ranked, it's up to you. I definitely got better faster by playing it as soon as I hit 30, because of how not all normals are serious. (I played AD Annie in norms today) To do that, though, I had to climb from the cesspool of 1,000 Elo. If you want a higher division when you play ranked, wait. If you want to get better faster and don't care if you have to climb up from mid/low Bronze, where you'll probably start, go for it.

Do
not
play ranked until you can meet the bare minimum of being able to play every role, pref. with 2-3 champs so you can't get picked out, having an AD, AP, and Support runepage, (you can get away with just those 3, but you do need those 3) and being able to get at least 100 CS by 20 in lane in most/all games. You should be trying for higher; anything less than 100 by 20 is pretty bad.

Did you lose less LP than you usually do? I notice that tends to be the case in those situations.

The crash happened because they introduced a queue for Howling Abyss into ranked without knowing they did it (even though the map doesn't exist in the live client)
People were loading into a map that didn't exist and it was overloading the server along with general unpleasantness playerside.

Anybody that's logged into league in the last 30 days got a free 4win IP boost.
