Beside the items we also have roles and it is quite possible that the mafia simply has a normal kill ability. I agree however that it is equally likely that the mafia starts with guns and needs to buy ammo. But even then the mafia will not start with three guns. If they did they would be able to make 3 kills each night and the town would be destroyed pretty soon. So the mafia is likely to get hold on both ammo and guns. So are scummy for trying to buy a gun.

Oh and all guns can hold extra ammo. You only have to buy the ammo, to get three more shots.

Please use the correct verb tense in your sentences. You used the future, but your sentence implies the past.

Why does everyone assume the mafia need a gun to kill? My role doesn't need any item to work. It'd be a pretty big disadvantage for the mafia if it was otherwise for them.

I think going after gun/ammo buyers is a wild goose chase, and the mafia are probably leading it.

sycko999, you ask [Post 197] why the Mafia wouldn't start with 'guns' - by this I assumed you meant 'with three guns'. There's a perfectly good reason why they wouldn't start with three guns, which is that then they'd get three hits against the town (mentioned by kleimar up a few posts as well). If you actually meant 'with at least one gun', then see my response to CoolBot below.

CoolBot, assuming the Mafia gets one kill a night (innate role-ability), WHY would they not buy the gun to get a second? (then another one for a third)

My initial reaction to all this was that trying to make us think that the scum have no reasons to buy guns is pretty scummy behavior, though I do see the point that buying guns could be a vigilante action. I still don't understand why people say that a vigiliante would be a good thing. It still seems to me that it would be an extra person killing people off, who has no more information than does the rest of the town!

Kleimar's initial move of buying ammo might have been more scummy than sycko's subsequent gun-purchase, as it suggests he already has a gun. His reason of 'Oh, but I just wanted to see what it did' doesn't really jive with me, for the simple reason that we can all guess exactly what it does. I suppose it's nice for Town to know that there are three bullets, or whatever, but I think the info gained from buying ammo is less than from sycko's candle purchase, for example.

All this said, I think there may potentially be less reason to suspect sycko999 of being scum than kleimar. (REASON: Buying a gun implies you don't have one [

caveat

that perhaps the scum start with 1 gun and want to get three], but buying ammo implies you've emptied your clip!). Kleimar, I'm interested in hearing a more in-depth defense from you, as sycko's done a little more, imho, of clearing his name. I'll levae the vote where it is for now, pending Kleimar's defense and the weighing in of others.

I think perhaps I'm suspicious of firearms, but I'm not willing to lynch a 2nd townie, so I'm not voting again until I'm sure. Perhaps I've been following others' lead a bit too much when it comes to the current discussion. I'd like to hear more from some others -- SapphireVerde and LocusCosecant haven't spoken recently, and I feel like the only posts Iammars has made have been rather cryptic attempts to incite a claim from CoolBot, or somesuch. The way he kept harping on at 'Bot made me uneasy as well... like he was trying too hard to convince us that he's a cop or something... Mars, an explanation? If you are an English Teacher, how would you know others' roles?

You bring up a very good point about the mafia only needing one gun.

There is however, a better reason to

He left out one important detail. This cheap item that can make a lot of money has 3 big drawbacks.

• First, you cannot return it.
  
• Second, you must use it the night you buy it
  
• Third, each nightkill has a 50% chance of hitting you instead of the intended victim

It feels like he wanted people to buy them, and not tell them how much it sucks, and getting people to buy them, especially after guns and ammo are being bought, playing off me implying that I had one here:

Directly contradicting sycko999, do not buy the candle. Its very dangerous after kleimars move.

...that's lame, it still results in a vig killing town instead of their intended target. In fact if more people have it then it's likely the vig will kill town

lets do some math.

Mafia->target player X. Player X being town.
Vig. ->Target player M. Player M being mafia.

4 Townies buy the candle (because sycko was so kind as to tell us how useful it is)

Now the target of both kills can be anywhere between M,X,A,B,C, or D.

Thats 2 kills. of which there is about a 20% chance (maybe a little more or less) that the mafia is actually killed.

That sure does throw off the balance now doesnt it?

Ha! To make you all leave me alone, I sold the gun, now giving the mafia a chance to buy one. Yes, it throws off the balance, if the vig kills normally tonight then he has a 10% chance of killing mafia, the candle helps protect the town better than any doc. If the mafia targets you then guess what, you're dead, no 50% chance or anything, and if a doc saves you guess what you don't get anything.

About the candles, we can use them to our advantage if we can assure that the people who have a candle are also protected at night. But, this will mean that we lose some protection for other players that may have more important roles.
