when reading SS, i basically don’t look at his play at all and instead look at how he interacts with people. his posts this game have come down on the side of his townself interactions in the way that he talks to people. the second thing i use to read him is whether i “vibe” with his posts (sorry i know this is a HORRIBLE explanation but i really can’t articulate it better than this), which i had only been kinda feeling in the first half of this Day and that’s why i was only townleaning him before. his recent posts as well as his posts on this page have been way more vibey for me, so he’s now in my top townreads. maybe the top townread for me.
i’d like to think that i probably know how to read him the most out of everyone in this game, i feel pretty confident in my ability to read him, and i think if he were scum, something out of the two things above would have felt off to me way earlier unless 1) he has figured out how to fake the things I use to townread him, which I think is fairly hard; and 2) he’s trying really really hard not to ping me specifically, possibly to the point of opening him up to being scumread by other people. i don’t see this being the approach that scum!SS takes with me if it means he risks being lynched, i think if he’s afraid of my reading him correctly he’d just go the NK route or try to get me lynched instead (a la the approaches that I tried to take on him in GnR), since my influence is pretty low in this game.
regarding the reasons for people being on his wagon - i have a lot of respect for SS as a player, i think he’s very intelligent and strategic, and i trust him over me completely when it comes to mechanics. i witnessed firsthand the kind of thought process that goes on when he’s scum, and i am absolutely, 100% certain that all of the things he said that seemed mechanically “off” to yall (ie the hider strategy with Bingle, and whether to leave SK!gobbles alive), he would say regardless of his alignment. scum!SS wouldn’t be saying things that he doesn’t genuinely believe is the best play. i can’t quote this verbatim but something he said to me while we were hydraing together is that he literally won’t post anything that he doesn’t think is true. on top of that, if he knew that what he was saying about hiders and keeping gobbles alive weren’t the best plays for town, i don’t think he would stick his head out and be the lone dissenter, i think his approach would be to not stand out. so feel free to think he’s wrong, but these takes being “wrong” is not scum indicative for him and i will defend this until the end of time. this is not a valid reason to scumread SS. even if my townread on SS is wrong (which i really don’t think it is), hell, even if i were scumreading SS, i would still argue that these points are not valid reasons to scumread him.
also i think SS has been pretty clearly the new counterwagon to gobbles for the last several rl days now, and if he were scum, his partners would have already been trying to divert the wagon elsewhere/there would have been at least some defending going on, but there’s basically been no opposition to the wagon. the game has stayed fairly stagnant in that time and we haven’t really seen anyone attempt to start a new counterwagon (i’ll go back and skim through to double check this but i don’t remember there being any other cw’s to gobble besides me). so that pretty much solidifies my resistance to lynching SS today.
