Looking pretty nice. I still think LoL's got a huge playerbase, and will likely continue to prosper due to it being free, but DOTA2 should really help both games ramp up their production values.

Judging by the UI and aesthetics looks pretty alpha build-y. Setting that aside, looking forward to seeing more. Hopefully it doesn't fail because of the headstart of LoL or not having enough development time. Not trying to say I want it to overthrow LoL but some competition would be nice.

The screenshots look nice, but I'm very disappointed by the fact that DotA 2 looks like an obvious reboot of old DotA. The same way HoN flopped as a real contender, DotA will as well if they don't innovate something beyond just the same old map and characters.

I think LoL hitting MLG will help them a lot.

It's been confirmed that Dota 2 is basically Dota 1 with a new engine, they aren't changing anything major.

Dota 2 won't flop, it'll probably be competing with LoL. Also, I'm guessing it'll be free with hats like TF2 is.

HoN's screwed though.

UI looks huge, only real complaint I have so far.

I can't imagine Valve will go F2P on Dota. They'll probably do what they did with TF2 for such a long time, where it was paid, but they had free weeks often, then eventually went micro-transaction based. More money that way

Planning on learning Kass to round out my caster pool. I've decided I want to be a dedicated caster and keep getting better. (I played comp pokes after sucking hard. Forcing my way into good play is what I do. Like seriously, If I can be in the top 15 in my countr at pokes I can teach myself to be a decent raked player.)

So after Kass I will be good with a Hybrid Mage, a Burst Mage, A Support Mage and An Anti-Mage Mage. And then it will be a requirement to learn Karth just because it is a requirement. :D

That's right all you people who are better than me and don't play ranked are wimps. Wimps I say.

you'll never be a good ranked player if you only play a limited number of champion types fyi

Keep in mind that their competitors are all free now though. The business model worked for LoL, why wouldn't they do the same?

Also it's been confirmed that the UI was from early beta.

How are they going to sell it at game stop if it's free?

No one shops at game stop.

in fact you'll probably actively handicap your team by being so inflexible, pushing you into the realm of those auto-lock douchebags that make ranked a frustrating experience

it makes a lot more sense to learn at least two out of each sort of "category" (supports, ranged AD, tank, tanky dps, junglers, etc.) so you can fill in whatever gap needs filling

That only applies for solo queue.

For solo queue I have at least two from each category that I already know how to play. I'm not an idiot. -.-

It applies to duo queue or playing with a full premade tbh. It's pretty limiting on the rest of the group if you only play spellcasters (and I used to in my newbie days).

This is a forum. Is it that hard to assume you would read another forum lol.

Pre-mades with strangers revolve around someone taking a role and being able to play lots of that type.

In solo or duo or whatever I'm usually the last to pick. I pick whatever we don't have. Like just tonight my last five games are a tank, AD carry, support, hybrid and AP carry. In that order.

It's a Valve game. They're going to push it on Steam the hardest. Every other place is just gravy.

Yes, but they aren't going to charge 60 bucks and game stop and give it away free online...

Why would they need to sell it at gamestop if it's free? They won't.
If it's advertising you are concerned with, they can sell Gamecards for online shop and all, that would do it.

Nasus is so good. Built tank. Got 1.5k Crit. I could 1v3 them. If I had my guardians up i could escape a 1v4 but my team was so heavy. We still managed to lose.

Dedicating yourself to a role so you can learn it and improve at it is a good idea. Dedicating yourself to a role full time is what they do in top level competitive play. Dedicating yourself to a role is bad for solo queue. If five people come together and all shout "MID OR I FEED" you know only one team's going to win (hint: not the dedicated ap carry players).

AP carry is like the guitar of LoL. It's the flashy one, that everyone and their mum wants to be. AP carry players are a dime a dozen. The bassist (support) or the drummer (jungle) are things that are more worthwhile to learn if you want to get into a band/team.

A note is that playing as a support requires knowing
exactly
what is going on in the game at any given point in time, knowing
exactly
where you need vision from wards/etc, knowing
exactly
when it's appropriate to use your abilities and when it isn't (you don't want to blow that long cd or run out of mana because you're healing every time someone gets a minor scrape), and the like. Everybody awes over the perceived skill of the people getting the kills. Nobody awes over the person standing behind them making sure they don't die every time they try.

The main issue with finding a good ranked premade is that they're either:

A) trying to be a serious team, in which case most ones I've seen ask for a certain solo queue elo before they'll consider you anyways (and usually ask that you know more than one role), or

B) your friends, in which case perhaps you ought to not be selfish and make the team build around you.

Keep those in mind.
