I’m definitely a pizza nerd, and have spent way too much time researching every little thing about pizza, so Naples is the holy land. I’ve gotten close with some Naples D.O.P. Certified Vera Pizza places here in the US (I once flew to San Diego just to eat at one) but I’m sure it’s not like actually being there.
Okay, so I got a question for you:

Chicago deep dish

Pizza or not-pizza?
I say it’s pizza. I’m not one of these pizza purists. Pizza can mean a lot of things to a lot of people. There are many many many different kinds of pizza across the US. I think as long as you are bribing the spirit of pizza along with you, any style is pizza. The only rules exist if you are trying to go with the Naples tradition, and follow all of their specifications. Other than that, pizza is a vehicle to show your personal expression.
Okay, see, I’m not a purist either (pineapple a-okay with me) but I disagree on deep dish. When I was in the states I went to a restaurant in Chicago that was famous for its deep dish, ordered one to myself despite them being for 2 people bc I was so hype. Then it arrived and I’d just never felt so betrayed? There’s SO much sauce, it overwhelms and drowns everything. It’s pie, not pizza (talking in British terms). He’ll, it’s even more like quiche imo. I think to be pizza there has to be some sort of ratio of based to sauce that, if crossed, eliminates the food from contention as pizza
I don’t know dude, people call pizza pie here  it’s definitely a different way to go as far as pizza is concerned, but they have their own history with it just like every other pizza style, and it goes back for decades. Who are we to decline something Chicagoans are very proud of? It came up at the same time as New York pizza, as Detroit pizza. They all have their own value. Do you remember if you went to Uno’s or Lou Malnati’s? There’s big beef between the two in the city and maybe if you didn’t like one you might have liked the other. I haven’t had deep dish since I was a kid so, it’s not the freshest in my mind, but I remember it fondly. I think it is just another branch on the tree of pizza. (Side not I love pineapple on pizza, I’m glad you are ok with that and I don’t have to hide it. I have a really cool idea with the pineapple for when I eventually open a pizzeria, but it’s a secret for now)

I mean y’all are still packing stadiums when I watch Premiership. Granted I rep the Sale Sharks so we’ll never get the audience that the Saracens or Harlequins get.
Oh, it may well still have the support among local clubs but I just don’t think it’s on the same level as football really

Like you have fans who are passionate but it’s never gonna be a conversation starter at work unless you already know the person is a fan

I’m not a huge football fan but I still semi-keep up regardless
Huh, I have been mistaken I guess. And here we are in the US having ourselves a little rugby Renaissance. The inaugural season of Major League Rugby starts in 2020.
