I think the baddies knowing what the throne actually does during event 1 is fairly reasonableIn post 1804, ulyana wrote:and i also very much doubt the baddies knew during event 1 which is maybe town indicative for you hm
they did not know what their sabotage was though yeah

Because that's a game mechanic -- scum gets a warning an event in advance of what is to come. They also learn special secrets about the current event (but those are more rare)In post 1815, ulyana wrote:why?? like why would morning tweet reveal the second event to the mafias beforehand?
The sabotages, however, are only told to them when each event begins. Ulyana is right about that- Morning Tweet

Ding ding ding!! Well Gamma is cheating a little bitIn post 1816, Gamma Emerald wrote:it says they know more, that doesn't mean they know everything
maybe they get info a day (well, an event) in advance. The first event rolled directly into the second, and there's a benefit in the third for sparing here in the second. I'm gonna figure each event ties into the next in some way, and scum's knowledge at least includes that.
The events almost always tie into the next. The only time this doesn't happen is from event #4 -> event #5, as well as from #6 -> #7.- Morning Tweet

Fun fact, the sabotages and secrets were combined originally when the setup was thought up! But that was before even NK15 started reviewing. Not so, anymore. They're two different mechanics. It is worded like the stagehands have two separate powers in the OP for this reason -- they are separate!
In game #3, for example, scum knows a *secret* that they may kill one of themselves off intentionally to kill anyone they want. However, they may *sabotage* the event to make spinning the gun barrel do nothing.
In game #1, scum knows a *secret* that the chair doesn't kill, it kingmakes and then players vote to kill/spare the king. They may *sabotage* the event to disqualify players from the chair.
Secrets never run out and are generally information-based and don't give scum extra power (the trading 1-for-1 isn't really a power, it's more like conceding a scum member to die). Sabotages are WIFOMy and can save lives or kill lives or change game rules and so on.
Secrets can tell you about any event (but usually just the current event and the next one). Sabotages are always only for the event you're in.- Morning Tweet

!!In post 1831, petapan wrote:i read bits of radio buzz (it's why i signed up for this) and scum knew well in advance what was going to happen that game so knowing the twist to the first event is not at all unreasonable
Radio Buzz was definitely more of an attempted finely-tuned setup by me. This one is more like a mario party with constant deaths streaming in.
i'm very proud of the mechanics in radio buzz, here I'm more invested in the flavour and the overall game looking pretty and (hopefully) being fun -- balance took a bit more of a backseat. It was really hard to balance a game with multiple moving parts and so many different sabotages and event outcome combos.- Morning Tweet

the bottom group don't translate to explicit scumreads in all cases but the bar is such that i am perfectly content with getting rid of people who aren't helping their own causes. gamma's logic about toog not caring about d1 being suspect when the twist was revealed is my thinking exactly, the paranoid thought i had day 1 was that his apathy toward the phase was a result of being informed that the vote was not directly an execution vote- Morning Tweet

I am sorry to players who were looking forward to playing with pooky / enjoy his presence in thread (and to Pooky himself) -- I just have a design philosophy where scum can take out threats to themselves, just on a limit or with caveats. I like scum strong

The first phase was intended to be viewed as an elimination. I think in order to fix this, I should have said "The player in the chair has a possibility of being killed." Or something along those lines. It wasn't supposed to be a massive mystery. In post 2049, petapan wrote:
so, i should speculate hereIn post 1947, Morning Tweet wrote:All players vote to nominate a player to partake in a Duel to the Death.
The first player to reach a majority will be nominated, as well as the player with the second-most votes when a majority occurs.
The player who was nominated second gets the gun first. It is guaranteed at least one nominee will not survive the duel.
i avoided that first phase because i feel like that endless guessing is a rabbit hole that distracts from actually playing mafia and we had no way of knowing what the twist would be
(it is super tilting that scum essentially got a free kill with the sabotage that was optimal to use no matter what the alignment of the person in the chair/execution target was. just absurdly unfair. pooky didn't even get a chance to play the game)
but i think it's clear that we need to give some consideration to what's going to happen and potential twists/fuckery because we need to make votes with strategic consideration that are hedging against bastard shenanigans
so the two people are in a duel, it doesn't necessarily say with each other but it says one nominee will not survive so let's just assume it works that way for now
i think the most obvious potential sabotage is for the gun to backfire and kill the shooter
but also, it doesn't really have anything to indicate the duelists will be isolated, it seems like it could be entirely possible that the #2 choice who gets the gun could just shoot someone else if they're scum. sure they get outed but it'd be like another free kill
so i sort of want the #2 person to be someone who is a poe/uncertain read but has the possibility of being town, that's what makes sense to me
The only nightkill sabotage in the game occurs on essentially night 1, the night where a nightkill would be the least effective. Scum has very little killing power in this setup, and I wanted them to have the equivalent of half nightkilling power due to how difficult a nightless, non-killing scum game is. Having no way to take out players is exceptionally hard for scum in nightless. Now, their abilities to do so diminish as the game goes on, so the earlier event #2 does have a good sabotage to justify burning one so early.
I think it was unfun for Pooky though and could have been designed better. Had that sabotage simply blocked or changed executioners or something along those lines, I think scum never uses it.
overall i feel unhappy with it but I do think scum needs killing ability. The implementation in that game could have been improved somehow.- Morning Tweet

That second event structure kicked peta's ass and i dont blame him for loathing itIn post 2076, petapan wrote:oh i forgot to say it but i'm gutted i was right on ceph and didn't get a chance to defend him
i don't really begrudge gamma it's just. i tunneled ceph in our first game together and i felt like he was getting bad reads on him here for similarish reasons and i wanted to save him
sadness
Will definitely be taking this into account going forward. I really like the redemption theme. I don't like players feeling like their words don't matter.- Morning Tweet
