As long as somebody doesn't do something egregious, I'll be good. My new style is supposed to be a calmer jake. Though it's easy to fall back into my old ways. Down to phone posting.
Many thanks to zoraster for allowing me to steal this question directly from his queue! A note will be made in the queue post and in sign-up announcements if a game endorses the above question. Is it possible your game has any of the following: cults, mid-game alignment changes, moderator lies that cannot be reasonably anticipated (e.g., godfather, tailor, miller, ninja, and similar mechanics are considered reasonable anticipations; telling someone they are a reflexive doctor when they're actually a paranoid gun owner is not), secret win conditions, un-divulged non-randomness in player role/alignment generation, or direct moderator influence during the game?
The question is to give a concrete reference for players who are interested in avoiding bastard games. There was an incident recently where a game was advertised as "slightly bastard" but ended up having more bastard elements than some of the players expected, so the intent of the question is to give advance notice of what to expect, more or less, from a game. The question is part of a form PM I send out to the top 3 or so moderators in the queue, so design should have been completed by that point in most cases; for things like uPick, if you expect to use bastard elements, I recommend answering "yes," though if you feel uncomfortable endorsing a response either way or don't know what to expect, I'll just say something to the effect of "This game may or may not have bastard elements" when your game enters sign-ups.In post 2295, Konowa wrote:Just curious, as it seems that I have missed something, but Equinox, what is the purpose behind asking that question when in your second point in the OP you state that "Games are considered Themed when they have: a) an obvious non-mafia theme, orb) non-Normal game mechanics and/or roles." Isn't the bolded a disclaimer that the question you are asking may occur? And would it be un-ethical for me as a potential moderator to say that without even having started on a design for a game that I already know that I would answer "Yes, it is possible" regardless of how my game ends up?
